Scheifele hit was not this bad, was during the play a split second after the Montreal player was putting the wrap around in the net with his head down. This was way way worse.
Granted, it like saying "being hit by a train is worse than being hit by a semi" but IMO Schiefele's hit was worse. He knew Evans was going to score into the empty net, took most of the ice to build up speed and launched himself into Evans, who viciously violated
the code by .... tucking the puck into an empty net, with no celebration. [And yet, there are still people here who
swear to f***ing God Evans did something wrong because he didn't watch Schiefele barreling down the ice and didn't do anything to prepare for getting obliterated, and Schiefele should have gotten
0 for it. Not a game, not a fine,
nothing. Like, not a goddamn thing negative, if anything he should get high-fived and congratulated for what he did.]
I have no problem with Reilly getting 6+. I'm truly shocked this is an in-person hearing, but whatever he gets, Schiefele still should have had far more - especially when he was critical of the punishment he got and didn't have any remorse for what he did, and was only sorry about the outcome. And that warning should have been communicated very clearly to players when Schiefele decided to blast Evans out of frustration after an empty net goal:
do not take your frustration out on an opponent who scores into an empty net, period.
the DOPS is often a joke.
You repeated yourself, but really when talking about that part of the NHL it should always be referred to as the Department of "Player Safety."
