If the act is what is punishable, do you agree that all cross checks to the head are punishable. There should be no proviso for “occurred during the play”.
This is some really, really bad logic, and grasping at straws to boot. You think the whole "chasing him down after the game was over" thing isn't part of the act? Lol.

So predictable. The fans of the offending player defend him.
And if the shoe was on the other foot they’d be demanding blood.
Not a shot at Leaf fans as every fanbase does it.
The bottom line though is if you want to get these kind of extremely dangerous plays out of the game there needs to be stiff suspensions. No matter what team we happen to cheer for.

lol. So it is acceptable to cross check anyone in the head so long as it is part of the game or within the flow of the game? What part of the question you don’t understand? Lol

Morgan fed the kid some lumber, no harm done. 3-4 games was my initial thought but in person would suggest 5-6. I’d say that’s too stiff but worth it in the end.

The Ottawa kid learned a lesson, act like an idiot and you’ll get popped. By the sounds of it, the vets on Ottawa will give him some advice going forward. I’m sure he won’t act like a goof again

The Ottawa kid learned that if he pushes the right buttons he can get a key Leaf player to over react and get suspended for 5 games or so.
Lesson learned indeed!

Acting like a goof is his thing.

I suspect the over-reaction will just embolden him further.

No, but calculated acts with known potential to cause serious injury are more serious than those that happen in the spur of the moment. It's why we have different categories for murder and assault, and the more serious are those involving calculation and/or intent. Cross checking a guy you're in a scrum with or who is crashing the front of the net is different from chasing him down after he scores a goal and hitting him in the side of the head. Anyone with half a brain understands this.

Dude. If you think this will make him stop acting like a jackass, you don't know Greig as a player. The dude was drafted with the reputation of being a rat, he thrives off being hated by the other team.

Scheifele hit was not this bad, was during the play a split second after the Montreal player was putting the wrap around in the net with his head down. This was way way worse.
Granted, it like saying "being hit by a train is worse than being hit by a semi" but IMO Schiefele's hit was worse. He knew Evans was going to score into the empty net, took most of the ice to build up speed and launched himself into Evans, who viciously violated the code by .... tucking the puck into an empty net, with no celebration. [And yet, there are still people here who swear to f***ing God Evans did something wrong because he didn't watch Schiefele barreling down the ice and didn't do anything to prepare for getting obliterated, and Schiefele should have gotten 0 for it. Not a game, not a fine, nothing. Like, not a goddamn thing negative, if anything he should get high-fived and congratulated for what he did.]

I have no problem with Reilly getting 6+. I'm truly shocked this is an in-person hearing, but whatever he gets, Schiefele still should have had far more - especially when he was critical of the punishment he got and didn't have any remorse for what he did, and was only sorry about the outcome. And that warning should have been communicated very clearly to players when Schiefele decided to blast Evans out of frustration after an empty net goal: do not take your frustration out on an opponent who scores into an empty net, period.

the DOPS is often a joke.
You repeated yourself, but really when talking about that part of the NHL it should always be referred to as the Department of "Player Safety."

This thread is full of people trying to compare this hit to others and getting those details wrong, or saying "LoL iTs JuSt A sHoT wHy Be MaD? "

Reminds me of a while ago when Ryan Garbage, I mean Garbutt hit OEL in the 3rd when the ducks were up handedly, like 5, or 6-1 and Domi went after him. People here didn't get why Domi would go after him on a play like that, or why he/Arizona was mad.

There are unwritten rules of hockey and likely in all sports. They may be dumb to you, but the players know them and you cross that line when you want to get some shit going.

Should Rielly have cross checked him in the head ? Nope. Should he have gone after for that ? 100%

The biggest fail out of all of this falls to the NHL again for only having, what 4 games between these two this season and looking to expand so teams play each other less.
