Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky were both born in January 1961, and their careers were obviously intertwined in different ways.

Facing-off against each other in the WHA, 1978-79:

At the Gaahden in Boston, probably Nov. 29th, 1980 (full confession, I have seen this one before, but it's too good not to re-post). These two, plus Kurri at right, would go on to score a few points...

My guess is 1981-82 season...

1982 -- Gretzky: "Mess, how much longer do you think your hair-line will remain?"

According to Getty-images, this is June 1982, so I'm guessing it's the '82 NHL Awards Ceremony. (L to R): Gretzky, Messier, Bossy, Billy Smith, Bourque, Doug Wilson. (Not clear why Messier is there...)
And, not sure if Smith's jacket or Bourque's porn-stache takes the fashion prize...

January 1983:

No kidding about their careers being intertwined. Racers signed Mess to replace the kid they just traded/sold to EDM. Maybe one day we can do one about Mess' hair slowly disappearing from his head

Saw this in a. doc the NHL did about the cup (link below) and its just so awesome. 1998 was all about Vladdy after his horrific accident but it was pretty cool seeing Yzerman get the cup with his daughter by his side. Pretty much the two things you play for - your kids & the cup.

Found out the 1948 RCAF flyers had a 20th anniversary game in 1968 where they wore slightly different sweaters:

Library and Archives Canada shows that this game was played against the NHL - QHL old pros at the Ottawa Civic Centre.
