I’m thinking that Bauer has an NHL future somewhere. There is still enough GM love for that type of player. If it turns out he is actually a legitimate NHL defensemen on top of his toughness he will be a Jet eventually and we will all love him.

Players of his ilk don't make it these days unless they can actually hang in the league in terms of ability. He has plenty of time still but I think he's an extreme Longshot st this point.

I noticed on IC that Daniel Torgersson was demoted to the 4th line. I guess he would be the 3rd prospect on the Moose this season who has disappointed the brass in terms of expectations. Is there a coaching problem with the Moose this year? It still seems like an odd fit in the organization to have no former defensemen coaching in the big club, Scott Arniel I believe coaches the defense, and two former defensemen as the only assistants on the farm team (granted Morrison was a forward). Doesn't happen that way too often?

Need more players of his ilk. Super strong leadership, great work ethic, hard to play against. Arber Xhekaj, Kurtis MacDermid, Brenden Dillon, most good teams have a solid guy on D or two.

They are not of Bauer's 'ilk'.
He has some potential but it is very limited. He is a fighter, not a hockey player. It isn't impossible for him to develop into at least a borderline NHL player but it is pretty unlikely.

In Xhekaj's last season in Jr he had 34 pts in 51 games. In Bauer's last year he had 10 pts in 32 games, less than half the ppg.

Moose get 2 goals from Kristian Reichel tonight, 1 from Bongiovanni and 1 from Limoges. 2 assists for Ville Heinola, but give up two 3rd periods goals, and the OT winner to fall to Milwaukee tonight, 5-4. Off until next Friday with a road trip to Grand Rapids and Toronto, before embarking on an 8 game homestand.

Keep in mind Bauer is 2 years younger, and improved greatly defensively in his last year. Xhekaj only had 7 more points in as many games when he was with the Bulldogs, and Xhakaj is awesome, so that speaks well for Bauer.

It speaks well for Xhekaj. Xhekaj is 1 year 2 months older. I don't expect lightning to strike twice.

It's not lightning, tough stay at home defense are always appreciated.

Not when they aren't very good.

Comparing Bauer to Xhekaj is expecting lightning to strike twice in the same place. Xhekaj is a huge surprise and even when adjusted for age, his stats are still better than Bauer's.

Xhekaj is an undrafted player and he was an NHL regular at 21 YO. Not lightning? OK, he is a unicorn then.

Bauer is the longest of longshots. Doesn't mean he can't or won't make it, but it is highly unlikely. Just by virtue of being a 6th rd pick, Bauer is extremely unlikely to make the NHL.

The pick has nothing to do with it. He's developing really well so far.
