No idea why the Moose are letting Boland play in the ECHL. Guy is clearly above the level. Could have had three to four tonight if not for highlight reel saves.

An average 1st period and the 3rd best power play unit besting the 5th best penalty killing unit meant the Moose played with a deficit that they couldn't quite overcome in their "first ever" contest against the Wranglers (who used to be the Heat).

Not Moose related but figured folks would get a kick out of this:

Jeff Malott gets first goal for Manitoba:

Lunch pail line delivered with this Evan Polei goal to bring home side within one:

So far in the previous couple of series during this six-game homestand they've lost the first game and won the second. Shall see if that happens on Sunday at 12 noon in the re-match.

You are being too kind to the Moose IMO. I was at last night's game and they played about five solid minutes in the third period. The rest was bad and frankly, boring as hell to watch. The Moose looked like they were just going through the motions last night.

Calgary has a good team, Schwindt got the 2 goals for them but that Zary kid is something special. Great playmaking.

Heinola looks to have been elevated to the top pair the last few games and his game is much better. He's much more engaged all over the ice. His style is much more direct now then earlier as well which will fit much better with the schemes Bones is employing. Also he's moving the puck quicker and isn't juat looking to hold onto it and make moves because he can at this level. So looks like he got the nessage and is buying into the game plan.

The pattern continues with the lose one, win one on this six-game homestand as they take it 4-3 in OT to improve to 7-3-1-0 which puts them 1st in the Central.

Be sure to pay attention to Jets 2019 4th rounder Henri Nikkanen folks......:

Chaz Lucius with his second of the season:

Just his second game back from illness and Brad Lambert gonna be seeing this one on repeat. Good news for him was he had a bunch of chances in game:

Heinola with his best game of the year with the OT winning pass to Gawanke:

Game recap here.

The Jets d has stayed remarkably healthy and without injuries and how well the Jets are playing he won’t be breaking in for awhile.

Maybe he knows there's scouts in the building?

I'm somewhat surprised that a Heinola-Gawanke pairing would work, but maybe it's kind of like Morrissey-Pionk. Nice goal they scored yesterday for the winner.

Any ideas what happened to Chisholm?

His game looks a bit unraveled atm. I'm sure he'll get it back together but he's been a bit off the last few from what I've seen.

Ville and Gawanke work because they retrieve and move the puck out of the zone quickly and they pinch effectively and keep plays alive in the ozone creating plenty of chances. Also Ville is good defensively at the AHL level so can clean things up ala JoMo for Pionk. But Ville needs to be watching JoMo as that is the type of game he needs to play to have a good career.

I know you are curious about Lundmark and I think his game keeps getting better. He's showing a lot of confidence in his pinching and his timing on his step ups is getting real good. He knows his limitations and plays within his means. I think there is an NHL player in there as he has the smarts, skating and enough skill to get by.

So in my 2 viewings and talking with a friend who has been to every home game we see the Moose D like this

Heinola - He is the best D man down there. Even when he is "off" he still is good. We can't remember too many times he is on the ice 5v5 and the other team scores. We would like to see more offense but at the same time some of the forwards have been snake bitten so he doesn't get rewarded as he might. Clearly THE GUY at this level

Gawanke - With Heinola they are a force. Both guys move the puck really quickly and they both get pucks on net. I think you will see his numbers go up if he stays playing with Heinola. For us he is in that number 2/3 guy for the Moose. Been pretty solid 5v5 as well.

Chisholm - He has been good and bad this year. I think as a PP guy he is pretty good. We all know he skates well and moves the puck well but I think he struggled a bit 5v5. Its not entirely his fault the Moose at times can show their age as a lot of their forwards are young compared to a lot of the teams we play. I think we both would like to see him more dominate at 5v5 and hopefully with the D changes they made he will. He has been moved down a pairing but I think it will help him.

Lundmark - He is just a very solid and safe player. Very Demelo like. I don't think he will ever put up points but being the safety net for his partner seems like his way the NHL. He is playing with Sautner now and they are kind playing as a shutdown tandem. Very good 5v5 and safe out their. A solid PKer as well.

Bauer - He is a work in progress. His timeline depends on him improving his skating and playing more up tempo hockey. I think he might have picked up an injury but he was playing ok in that bottom pairing role before he came out of the lineup.

Good summary. This matches what I've seen from each of the dmen lately.

Pre-game news: Chisholm & Lucius both dealing with minor bumps and didn't play.

Quite the start to the road trip for the Moose:

Score on first shot of the 1st period (which was basically their only shot of the 1st):

Deservedly so the Moose were down 2-1 but Leon Gawanke (after briefly leaving game due to high stick) ties contest:

Mark Morrisson must have given quite the 2nd intermission speech cause they woke up in 3rd:

Including this excellent individual effort:

But despite the scoring twice to take a 4-2 lead the Stars fought back to tie it 5-5 and send it to OT where they won it on the PP. Too many penalties by Manitoba as they drop to 7-3-2-0 on the season. Re-match on Saturday.

Tough break for the Moose up 2 goals in the final 2 minutes, and letting the game get away. Top line of Malott-Stenlund-Limoges had quite a game it looks like. Noticed that with Heinola getting called up and Chisholm out, the Moose had the opposite problem of the Jets, being forced to run 5 RHD last night.

Talk about a complete opposite start for the Moose. Three goals in 4:22 and the first two goals came on the first two shots of the game for them

And you already saw Big Bad Brad's SO goal above so here was the SO winner by Isaac Johnson:

Manitoba now 8-3-2 on the season which puts then 2nd in the Central. Next opponent will be the Admirals on Tuesday in Milwaukee who sit in 1st

He's only 3 or 4 defensive injuries away from cracking the lineup. Well, that's what it took for Buff to get moved back to D from the year-long winger experiment, so you never know...
