Refs are hell bent on not calling anything this game either way. The one penalty they did call was because the Rockford goalie launched the puck out of play. Results in Kovacevic getting elbowed down sending a 2-1 the other way and Rockford scores. Earlier Kovacevic got his stick slashed out of his hands resulting on a 4 on 1.5. Neither of those plays were Kovacevic's fault but beyond that he's been pretty terrible. Getting beat regularly on the outside.

Moose win 3-2.

I'll have to look into it more, but it seems like the Moose tend to outshoot their opponents more in the second period than the other two. Seems like their possession game really allows them to take advantage of the long changes. Berdin's puck playing ability and their defensemen's calmness under pressure helps them not to get hemmed in themselves. Team's full of demons on the forecheck as well.

I'm not entirely sure Vesalainen should even be in the Moose line-up when everyone's back.

Lundmark treats the puck like a grenade. Haven't been very impressed by him this season.

In the last 3 games that Berdin has played plus one period coming in in relief, the Moose have outshot their opponents 124-59.

In the last 3 that he hasn't minus one period for the goalie getting chased, they've outshot their opponents 72-70.

At what point does Berdin's ability to stop opposing teams from getting set-up in the Moose zone make up for his sub-par sv%?

EDIT: More numbers.

Moose have outshot their opponents 994-699 when Berdin is in net and 1200-1006 when he isn't. They've been outshot twice in 29 this season while Berdin was in net, by 3 and 4 shots, and 10 times in 39 games when he wasn't, by 15, 3, 1, 8, 18, 12, 8, 2, 8, and 16 shots.

When Berdin is in net, Moose get 58.7% of the shot share, versus 54.4% when he isn't.

I was at the Saturday game because my son got to play a game after.

The score was closer than the game IMO. The Moose could have been up by a few more. 1 thing that stood out was it seemed like the Moose do a better job at breaking out as a unit with speed than the Jets.

From a player perspective I noticed a few things, but was mostly on popcorn duty. And we were sitting pretty low and that is hard I think to watch the overall game.

High level though, Heinola looked good. I also thought Chisholm looked good. Shows some good skill and puck moving, now guessing to get to the next level needs to show he can handle it defensively. No one really stood out from the forwards from a "skill" perspective. As in, there isn't a guy that sticks out and you know he has the skill to play in the NHL. The team is good, but more because it seems like they have a lot above average AHL guys. Gus looks like he needs another shot though.

The team did play with a lot of hustle which is fun to watch.

When they get the re-enforcements I think they could have a decent playoff run. Really sucks that Perfetti can't play.

6 AHL contracts in that forward lineup so from a prospect perspective it's kind of patchwork. 3 of the NHL contracts are UFA at the end of the season, and Vesalainen might be on his way out. I wonder if Torgersson, Nikkanen, Bongiovanni get into any games. Barron probably misses the first round of the playoffs, as I think the Jets want to see what they have. Eyssimont and Reichel should add some quickness.

By most reports it seems like the defense is leading the charge, and that's where the Moose may have the advantage. Do the Jets send Samberg back to the Moose for game 1?

Jets season will be over before Moose playoffs begin.

Barron and Samberg (provided they are healthy) would play game 1 in round 1.

I'm going to guess that Nikkanen, Torgersson, and Bongiovanni don't get in during the playoffs unless there are significant injuries. Not necessarily saying they shouldn't crack the top 12, but coaches tend to go with the group that got them there.

That's good news.

I can see that, but from an organizational perspective there has to be some push to get some of the prospects playing, from a development standpoint. The Polei-Maier-Jones line should be safe, but beyond that...you would think there would be an interest in seeing how Torgersson could play, instead of Bobby Lynch, say, when you have a top 40 pick on your roster. Bongiovanni has just gone through the NCAA tournament to the final 8, so he seems like a guy that's ready to jump in as well.

Though a run of any kind is good for True North's pockets with the Jets out.

Should be some depth at both forward and defense for Mark Morrison to use. Do folks think Berdin can take the team all the way?
