If only Cole and David had a better winger. Number 22 just messes so many plays up
I'm never impressed with him, even though he's been putting up points.

I wish AHL tracked ice time. I was at the game yesterday and Perfetti played on the 1st and the 4th line for most of the game. Must have been in the mid-20's for minutes played.

Yeah he double shifts on the fourth twice a period from what I've seen.

Fun game to be at today. The Moose really play well as a team.

Perfetti is just a fantastic hockey player. His vision and offensive skills are top notch but he's also real sound in his end. Cole is very good at breaking it out of his end and into the offensive end. He is also very strong on his skates and wins a lot of puck battles and is able to keep plays alive. He is scoring at a greater clip the Conner did in his D plus 2 year in the AHL and is a much more complete player to boot. No idea how much more he really needs to learn as he's pretty darn close if not already ready.

Gus had his moments and worked hard as per usual but I question how much of his puck skills will translate to the next level. I think he's tracking to be a more skilled version of Lowry which should allow us to run a true two/way third line imo.

Heinola was real steady all around tonight. I didn't think he was super noticeable offensively outside the PP but his defensive game was a lot cleaner and he moved the puck well as per usual. It's the type of game that will make Maurice take notice.

Chisholm had another real nice game. I love the kids tools, great skater with a nice blend of skill. He is a big part of the teams offense and is very good at jumping into the play and switching with our forwards in the offensive end. His puck management in his end still needs a bit of work as doea his defending but he's really tracking well.

Gawanke: He is a lot like Chisholm and the two play really well together. He's jumping into the play well and has a big shot that he's using well. He is also showing better passing decisions with the puck and his play without the puck is pretty good.

Lundmark: The surprise of the year for me so far. He's just a very steady defender. You don't notice him much as he's almost always in good position on the ice and closes things down quickly. He can get his shot through and makes simple but effective decisions with the puck. He also has some nice hands so he may develop some more offense in time. I'm quite impressed with him.

Samberg: Have to say I'm a bit concerned about this player. He's running around a bit too much in his end. He's also not managing the puck well at all and turned it over in key spots and miss fired often on his breakouts. The kid has clear attributes but hasn't put them together. Hopefully things come together for him, but right now he's clearly behind 4 dmen on my Moose pecking order and imo the younger Lundmark has been more dependable as well.

Kovacevik has been ok lately but has had some issues moving the puck and getting his shot through. He is what he is imo and that is a solid defensive physical dmen with some skill but he's starting take more of a back seat to Heinola, Chisholm and Gawanke the more I see. I still think he could be a decent bottom pairing dmen but we likely have better then him moving forward in our system.

I went to the game on Saturday, and was equally impressed by Lundmark. Thought he moved well and made smart plays.

Johnson is generally a calm, informative interview, and his discussion here of the Moose PK setup and execution is interesting and throws some light on what they seem to be doing differently from the big team, starting with structure and then executing with real speed and aggression:

Fast and aggressive on the PK, which is a stark contrast from slow and static on the big team.

I can't see how there is such a big philosophical difference between the two teams. IS moe telling our players differently or do they just not go out and play aggressively. I think it's more risk adverse coaching by Moe myself as out PK has been consistiently passive up here mo matter what personnel we use.

They try and use the same systems in the AHL as the do in the NHL. Guess which team listens and does what they are asked and which one does not

Clearly the kids who want to get called up and are playing for their livelihood in the AHL.

If Moe can't get the players to do what he wants on the Jets then there is an issue there no? We have made a number of player personnel changes maybe it's time to change the voice in the room in an attempt to get everyone dialed back in and engaged.

Yes and no right. You give players leeway to do what they need to do in the moment then coach out mistakes after. I think they are trying to do the right thing and I think a combination of bad bounces and then apathy to what you are trying to do is likely what is going on with the PK and now the PP. Really you have to continue to work through it and hope your players are resilient enough

It's not like a bad PK has been a rare thing here :dunno:

 I keep wondering why Oligny and Maier keep getting TOI when we have prospects to develop.

Of course I have almost zero knowledge of the leadership these guys bring. You need some of that even on a development team.

That's a good question. I've always kind of wondered about the ideal proportions for an AHL roster. How many career minor leaguers vs. long term development plays vs. hot prospects looking to make the jump right away. It does seem that you need a certain number of guys there for the long haul like Oligny.

The surprising thing to me is that Nelson Nogier, who has been with the franchise the longest, and has the highest contract for a d-man, isn't a letter.

I don't know if the Moose are running RD Gawanke, Kovacevic, and especially Lundmark because they are better players, or they need assessment. Probably both.

Since Samberg came back I believe the Moose are now running 7 d, including Ogilny.

Maier is one of those guys who has worked his way up. I don't know who found him, but he's been a solid player in his time with the Moose.

I like Gustafsson as a leader, especially on a team with a lot of young Europeans, I think he's the guy you look to. He's going to be in the show next year, for sure.

At forward the Moose aren't deep at all. Seems like Poganski and Eyssimont have found their roles, as newcomers, but the bottom lines of the Moose are mostly AHL contracts. Seems like a good way to save a few bucks on operating a farm team during economic uncertainty.

7 d-men are under contract with the Jets, including Nogier, but you can't blame management for wanting defensive depth after some of the previous seasons.
