I have to say that I'm not really a fan of how our new coach has this team playing. Almost all dump and chase.

Very little in the way of skilled play and skilled transition play. Maybe it's a personnel issue but why wouldn't you bring in vets that can help guys like Cole and Ville play an actual system similar to how the Jets play.

I think Vincent was much better at this.

Edit: Even Perfetti is dumping it in most of the time.... pretty garbage coaching going on here imo.

Moose emulating the Jets from the past few years. Plenty of shots from the outside. Very little creativity 5 on 5.

Gawanke: 2G1A, 11 SOG, OT winner.

The Moose controlled the puck at will tonight but almost everything came from the points and is one of the reasons despite putting 60 on net they couldn't score at 5 on 5. I would like to see more foresight by the team and look to hold onto it more in the offensive end and break the other team down. There were a few shifts in the third where they started to posses it and use all 5 men to work it around and it opened up more from in close. It is the type of 5 man systems we have started to see with the Jets this year and Cole and Ville are terrific at making the right reads and moving into the right spaces.

Perfetti isn't getting any puck luck on the PP right now. Beat the goalie clean twice only to find iron tonight. He also set up probably another 4 grade A chances that weren't cashed in. Meanwhile two of the PP goals we scored were long range weak shots that went in off of skates lol. That's how it goes sometimes. I am not sure if this is coaching or just him still adapting but I find he isn't using his shiftiness and deception as much 5 on 5 (unlike the PP where it is on display and opening things up constantly). He's still effective at moving the puck and pushing possession, but he's been much more straight line with cut backs and not nearly the same amount of creativity from him. I found he was doing it more earlier in the year when he was playing center but seems to be playing more of a Gus type game since moving to wing so perhaps its just as simple as molding his game to his center ice man. I personally would like to see him back at center where he gets more touches of the puck and the line revolves around him.

All dmen where great in their end tonight so just going to talk about puck skills etc.

Heinola on the other hand is getting plenty of puck luck right now as he just handed both of his assists off to the dmen who lobbed it in off a foot. He's also playing really well and playing a much more active game. I liked his poise and vision with the puck and he and Cole really work well off of each other. Not really surprising given how skilled/smart they are. One thing I found is that he like the other dmen were lobbing way too many shoots from the point instead of switching off and opening up better looks. It might be coaching as they were all doing it.

Gawanke was just putting everything on net and got rewarded tonight with a break and a good finish in OT. He was skating well with the puck but his first pass is only mediocre, he will need to improve that if he wants a shot at an NHL job.

Chisholm was more quiet then usual in the offense. He was still moving the puck well put fell into the trap of throwing a bunch of long range shots at the net.

Kovacevik wasn't too noticeable with the puck tonight pretty much letting Ville handle it.

Lundmark showed good poise and hands again, as well as the ability to get his shot off quickly.

I get that this isn't an overly skilled team upfront but if you really want our players to really own their skills there needs to be more to the game plan then put it to the point and crash the net.

Wait, what?? Perfetti is playing wing? I thought they were grooming him for Centre...

He's played wing the last 3 to 4 games. I'm not sure why as he was playing well at center. Maybe they see the need for him on the big team down the stretch here and are working on getting his game ready there. I guess Dubois's elite play has maybe also lessoned the need for the team to develop him as a 1C opting instead to maybe get his game ready to play with Mark to fill that vacant LW slot there now that Conner seems to be playing the best hockey of his career with a more straight line center. Cole plays the cut back and slow it down, give and go game that Mark loves and being a premier playmaker will fit in well with Mark's more so shoot first mentality.

Well three point games for both Gus and Cole.

Perfetti was fighting the puck a bit in the first but settled down after he scored and then was very dangerous the rest of the way in. It's not a bad thing to go through a mini slump (not that he didn't generate a tonne of chances and hit 4 posts during it). It's good for a young player to go through the ups and downs of the pro game. He's scoring at the same rate Conner was in his d plus 2 year in the AHL for those wondering.

Gus is NHL ready and really doesn't have much else to learn in the AHL. I'd personally have him up on the big team.

Samberg was a bit rusty with the puck but otherwise was much more involved then he was last year. I liked his game tonight.

Heinola was solid both ways as was Chisholm.

Why are the Moose consistently dressing Polei? Isn’t he just an AHL veteran goon? Ironically skillwise they’d probably be better off going 11F 7D

I'd love to see Gus get a game or two here or there for the Jets as the 4C. I also think he could be ready, and if so, a big body like that could be a nice add for a playoff run.

Pretty much just watched after Milwaukee tied it up, so I don't know if it was like this the whole game or just from that point, but Perfetti and Gustafsson straight up controlled the game every time they were out. Heinola as well was dominant.

Yup, we got some good looking kids down there. We may need Cole and David before too long if our special teams continue to struggle.

@surixon what do you think Gustafsson's offensive potential is? Is he strictly a potential bottom 6er and defensive player on the NHL level?

That is a bit of a tough one. He is like Copp in a lot of ways. He's smart on the ice and is in good position in all zones which gives him a good foundation for NHL hockey. In terms of his actual offensive skills nothing really stands out as being a major weapon for him. I'd say he's good but not great across the board. He's a solid puck handler that is most likely going to use his size and strength to protect the puck and create time and space. His shot is pretty average and his vision and passing might be slightly above average.

I think if all goes well he could be a two-way second line center. More realistically I see him as a good two-way 3C that will allow the Jets to build a more balanced third line. I see him taking over Lowry's role in a few years.

I'm sticking with poor man's Bergeron.
