Do you really think that these consumate professionals who've clawed their way into the NHL "don't want it enough"? Have you played sports?

Is that more likely or is it that their gameplan distracts them and they lose their focus because they've been forced to play a way that doesn't suit them?

The "doesn't want it enough" narrative has been debunked so many times, especially with THIS squad who rarely takes nights off in the regular season. These guys want it really bad - they can't get there with Therrien at the helm.

Yep, it's just some deluded narrative people create to try to justify Therrien having a job.

There's ZERO accountability from Therrien.

He is always the first to deflect blame away from himself.

It's pathetic and embarrassing.

Prust should shut his mouth

His 4 minute PP cost us the game.

Ugh he is a terrible player.

Another version of that is "why was there even one minor on the play". That is totally the ref inserting himself.

Refs were told by supervisor to watch Prust anywhere near Bishop... there was absolutely nothing there that merited a penalty... in the playoffs... when that crap happens every shift.

Top 6 needs serious work.

yup...we got all the damn depth in the world...when you look at pacman 4.5, gallagher, 3.7, chuckies probably not gonna break the bank, pleks aint getting a raise....de la rose on entry level....more rookies coming up..prust, Weller, flynn, mitchell, we need real talent up there....real game breakers or atlas one and it changes everything

Im talking about this game, not last series. Look at the call on Vanek 10 minutes ago, Keith pushes him into Crawford, Crawford jabs him in the face, Vanek get's a penalty for goalie interference, thats the ref saying keep out of the paint and don't touch the goalie or im gonna call it. The officiating is too inconsistent, last game saw Weise fall on top of Bishop when he didn't have to and it went uncalled, had that happened tonight its probably a penalty, refs are the weakest part of the game

NHL reffing must be addressed this off season for it has been horrendous this whole season for every team.

They don't have a replacement because the coach refused to develop one this season. He's a short-term win coach.

100% agreed. And numerous posts of mine have stated as much. You can view coaches on a number axes, or spectra. One that I've talked about lately is meritocratic approach vs favoritism (blind support of favorite player, or blind hate of others), where it is given that all coaches fall somewhere between the two poles. Another that I brought up a while back is win-now at all costs vs win while nurturing young talent (again, a spectrum of sorts, not a binary situation). MT is both arguably win-now and strongly biased for one player and against certain other players, in a manner that does not correlate to their respective qualities. This combination does not resonate with the modern approach to the game, to put it charitably.

And that same coach that he's not worried about our PP sucking after the first 30 games of the season. 60 games later, we still suck and it could be a major factor if we get eliminated.

And they stlil have the exact same strategy on the power play.

And they still by and large use the same forward trios at 5 on 5 as on the power play.

Yet people laughably blame the players.

Anything to avoid putting any of the focus on Therriens' inept coaching.

Give him a break. It was a tough loss and they immediately put a microphone in his face. I'm sure he's not 'happy' and if he could select his words in retrospect I'm sure he would say something like "We're confident with this group" rather than "We're happy with our game". Big deal, he didn't select the correct cliche. Who cares?

I wouldn't if the team didn't respond the same way after a loss every time for the last two years. It's a joke at this point.

They did and Tampa Bay didn't stop playing offense.

Habs again in control mode. That's despicable. More refs stories while they don't show anything.

No excuses my ass. I hope they get that sign out of this locker room.

Prust wasn't making it an excuse. He did say it was the team's worse playoff game.
But I thought the refs were bad all night. I don't get the Prust extra minor, we've seen players with their veins popping out of their throat while screaming at the refs and complaining, and not get a 2 for it. Prust said a little something, which if we believe was that he thought the call was soft, and then all we see is Watson chew him out while Prust doesn't even seem engaged. It was weird.

The PK call...It's the god damn playoffs. People like to point to Carle's penalty as a comparison but Carle got up and just charged Gallagher. Callahan crashes the front of the net and right into the Dmen. So he gets a little sherwood. Come on man..
The Gilbert crosscheck...what the hell was that??

Just terrible reffing.

Typical BC playoffs meltdown. Game 5 vs senators this year, game 1 vs rangers last year, game 5 vs senators in 2013.

How is not much better?

Yikes, holy exaggeration.

Both teams have sat on their hands for several years letting their best players age, unfortunately for the habs their players are already in their prime. Bergevin has done nothing and he has 2 superstars on his team. This showing in the playoffs is disgusting and shameful, nothing to be proud of after finishing 1st.

If we get swept, I fear Petry will "nope the **** out" and won't sign with the Habs. That whole media/fans ****storm will be a huge turnoff.

It's a tactical thing much more than a "willpower" thing.

People said the same **** about Kovalev and the guy wanted to win more than anybody else on the team. He just didn't trust the gameplan most of the time and tried to do it all himself.

Same goes here, these guys know their gameplan is whack and are on the edge of losing the coach. If only it happened 40 games ago.

They are still young men with normal human emotions.

Add to that the fact that the Bolts cannot seem to do anything wrong playing the Habs and find ways to win. Close games, blowouts and everything in between.

They are professionals. They also realize that after giving a great effort in Game One, they still lost the game. Add to that outplaying the Bolts in the first period, they give up a goal at the end of the period.

Emotions play a huge role in all sports, pros or not.

The next game will show if the Habs are mentally tough enough to overcome their own minds.

We much need offense at the trade deadline.. MB didn't get us any help.

Seriously, who hasn't predicted that we will have problem scoring in this playoffs. It's been the same in the last 4-5 playoffs. Our top 6 are having a lot of trouble scoring in the playoffs.

100% agreed, I have seen more blown calls this season than I have ever, it has been awful. And for gods sake, make EVERYTHING reviewable, this BS that "Oh that should be goalie interference butttttt its not reviewable" is a joke. If you have the technology, use it.
