wow, the price just went up for Monahan. 1st + a very good young forward rookie.
Hab dont need any dmen, or goalies. so it's very high end forward prospect over 6.2.

Yeah, right. We told you guys all along and if you truly still believe he'll fetch less than a late 1st or equal value, especially when a similar player got considerably more with a heavier cap hit to boot...then you're defying logic. Let's see if you have the cahones to show up in there parts if and when it's done.
we should dig up all the things habs fans told us during the summer about pld....

The Canucks have appeared in the Stanley Cup finals three times (1982, 1994, and 2011), losing on each occasion. I believe they made the right decision and pay the right prize for the right player, which is the better center on the market.

I dont Sean's value is realy high now, but there's no realy other impact center on the market IMO. Maybe for that reason, Hughes will think about waiting, but I think he should pull the trigger during this week.

Any 1st round pick offered or a grade A prospect and Hughes probably will pull the trigger.

You might get that late first. But this is an insane price for a guy with a lot of red flags.

The names I’ve seen thrown out that Habs fans think they can get is ridiculous. Gabe Perreault, Rutger Mcgroarty? That’s beyond delusional. I’d take that first and run if it was offered for Monahan.

Cap is practically irrelevant. Getting a 3rd team to broker a deal to retain half at the deadline for a pending UFA is worth about a 4th round pick for mid range salary player (see RoR deal or other such similar deadline deals), it is cheap because most of the salary is already paid out and teams have certainty on retention slots. That is what the price of retaining half on a medium size contract for the rest of the season. It is nothing, only thing that should matter is the player impact as retention is cheap on expiring deals.

If Canucks had cap issues, they could have involved the Hawks or the Ducks to closer to the deadline and paid them a 4th to retain like the Leafs did with O'Reilly and the Wild.

Oh? The large majority did not want and called him a prima donna. He sucks.
Yeah that's some fine revisionist history. It had nothing to do with you guys not wanting him, you guys were just adamant that you had the Jets over a barrel and we'd take a 2nd and Anderson and like it or Dubois would just walk to the Habs in free agency.

lol, habs fans claimed we were forced to trade him for little value because the only place he wanted to go was montreal or else he would walk for free
PLD changed his mind and that was a very good thing for us. We could be burdened with a very very bad contract.

While I think Monahan is a really good player who would fit on any team with aspirations of contending, I don't think it means much that Lindholm got traded for that haul.

Lindholm is simply a better player and in equal circumstances would probable produce more points too. He was the catch of the deadline.

Considering past deadlines, its reasonable to think Monahan could fetch a 1st, I wouldn't necessarily count on it. We'll see. Hughes usually waits for his price to be met, but at the same time he basically bent over for Petrys demands for some reason, using up a retention spot for an underwhelming return.

Habs were the only team he was willing to go to until he decided he wasn't willing to wait a year to cash in long term. That didn't happen until he realized HuGo was not going to offer much for him. Or that they had no interest at all in him.

Of course it means a lot. There are only 2 centres left and at least 6-7 team that need one. How much it would affect what teams are willing to offer who knows. And will Hughes raise his asking price or stick to what has always been asking for?

Sometimes, You need to give, to take.

Can we change the title now?

"Monahan maybe the 2nd F traded"
Yes.

Don't disagree here. Though I don't have much doubt that Dubois will turn it around, but also hard to imagine he's ever worth that contract.
