Speculation: Monahan forward most likely dealt first

I speculate that among the interested teams in terms of fit may be NYR, Bruins, Leafs and maybe Panthers but IMO, I doubt any of those teams would be willing trade a 1st for him even if there was a bidding war. I just don't see any of those teams seeing themselves as a Monahan away from the cup over the competition so are unlikely to sacrifice too much in the way of futures for him.

I can see it coming down to which lower tiered prospect that Hughes and their scouting staff like more and a 3rd or something like that. It's fairly common for pending rentals to get value hyped prior to the deadline but it rarely works out that way.

Would it be fair to say, assumptions can be foolish at times?

Far too many things can happen to several contenders between now and the deadline, to increase or decrease the leverage each and every team has.

HF can be entertaining when it comes to putting a value on an asset especially to a team a poster does or does not like..............bias, is an interesting animal.

If Monahan had better linemates (than Armia / Gallagher) he would be producing much more than he has 5 on 5. That one is hard to argue with but i am sure you will find a way. lol

Neither are really a fit on the Avs. Hard to imagine the Avs paying your ask to end up in a similar place.

Deadline is still a bit off and market values have not been set for the year. Being a buyer-seller as a hobby there is the ask-offer dynamic that work here that has no bearing on opinions here on ether side. We will have a better idea in a month as who needs what and available players are worth at that point in time.

Pro scouts will determine everything based on all factors. That's because they're pro's and would not be employed for long if they assessed players based on which teams they love or which they hate.

I'm excited to see the next stat where an NBA player gets compared to an NHLer. Habs might have the lowest even-strength goals among forwards which is too difficult to comprehend for many people. Monahan will still get a 2nd at minimum.

In terms of his role, they probably want that guy who has instincts to get goals around the net (garbage goals, deflections, etc) He's scored a lot of goals against the Avs this way.

For the Canucks, it's about fit. Tocchet likes players that go hard on the forecheck and skating with tempo.

Also, I think other fans probably see him more as depth on a contender who may be a marginal upgrade to what they currently have in the lineup rather than an impact player who would be a significant upgrade to their lineup
