Speculation: Monahan forward most likely dealt first

That write-up isn't the worst.... Biggest weakness is seeing Monahan as a pure C, whereas he's likely better used as a winger who helps out on faceoffs and can replace a center a few games if injuries hit. But anyone hoping he'll be a #2C through 4 rounds is kidding themselves.

Can't imagine any Habs fans would even disagree on that point or at least would acknowledge that's likely a fair point.

From a Jets POV, my hope would be as per the rumors is the Jets are aiming higher then Monahan and I hope they get their guy. Plus maybe add a top 4RHD

How does Montreal do this every year? They get insiders to hype their trade bait relentlessly. No way Monahan returns that value in a different market. They know how to create a market for some mid players that’s for sure

Last year he scored 56 (mostly) on a team that was worse than this Habs team.

As stated, Jets by all reports are aiming higher then Monahan at 2C and a top 4RHD. Monahan doesn't fill any of those needs and your comments don't either.

Whats daft is the explanation provided for Colorado since Johansen and Monahan are similar skill sets. 🙃

What’s sad or pathetic is that the Avs GM seems to be determined to make it work with players like this. So it can’t be entirely dismissed no matter how much of a bad idea and waste of assets it is.

It really is impressive how they do it. Everyone knows the real high IQ hockey people are here on the mainboard who know that every Habs player sucks, is overrated and has little to no value (until they play for another team). These sucker GMs keep falling for it.

right...people take a random post when an overenthusiastic fan said something like that and think this is the general consensus among the millions of Habs fans on the planet. Edmundson was hurt for most of the year except right before the trade deadline. The fact the Habs got anything is impressive. Haters should not generalize random comments to all Habs fans.

To be fair, in this thread, they dont share the same brain. Some insist on a first. Some say they’d be happy with a 2nd or a 3rd.

Maybe they did when he was playing legit prime until he got injured. That was pretty reasonable for a tough number 3/4 D playoff warrior and leader. Hindsight is pretty easy after the fact players gets injured and does not come back the same.

I stated “comparatively cheaply” vs a high end 2C which is what the Jets are rumoured to be after, anyone taking offence to that statement is being a bit hyper sensitive unless you consider Monahan a top end 2C in the NHL. If anyone thinks that, well I wouldn’t even reply to their comments bc it’s pointless.

If I knew that I would be the richest man in the world bc I could see in the future. Ask me the same question come March 1st to 5th range.
