Would love to know what Diaz's number are post Regan being added. It could bring some clarity that he was being told to keep throwing his slider, in spite of it's effectiveness.

What explains it, though? He velocity was still well above 97, his spin rate is still excellent. Why is he suddenly getting hit hard when all the stuff is still there, and he's still missing bats at close to his career rate?

Slider. Mike Petriello who knows a lot actually just did a deep dive on Diaz.

10 ER in 11 and a third but 9 of those runs came in those 2 disaster games vs Philly.

I know the other thing was speculation about Ramos and blocking his slider, but I wonder if there is a sample with Nido back there and his slider. As we know, deGrom and Syndergaard both said they like pitching to Nido more. It's not an exact science when it comes to it, but if Nido is significantly better at catching Diaz, it would make sense to switch him in at the end of games.

Yankees had scouted Lyles a couple weeks ago I believe.

No real loss here though. He is a buy low candidate with the hope he can turn things around. Probably wouldnt happen under Rothschild’s tutelage

If anything, the Stroman return should help us seeing as the Yankees are buyers.

Our market is mucked up because the other GM's only know how to repeat "hURr DuRR gLeYBEr toRrEs" like ****ing drunks.

When Yanks are buyers other GMs wring their hands greedily and await the call from Cashman.

"If no Gleyber, fine, then give us Frazier, Florial, Loaisiga, Andujar, and take back this terrible contract for a middling 3rd starter." Tired of this shit.

I mean isn't it a contradiction to complain about that when Cashman raked in top prospects in his 2016 deals?

No harm in asking for the moon in deals when you're being offered what you see as below value, usually the end result is somewhere in between...

This is extremely not comparable though.

The Yankees got a top prospect for arguably the best closer in the game. Yes they got a couple other prospects as well, but best closer in the game. But what Gleyber playing at the Major League level? Did he come over and play that year? Maybe if he did not get hurt he might have seen some games toward the end of the year.

What about for Andrew Miller? Sheffield and Frazier were top prospects, but I dont recall either being the Indians best prospects, let alone being major league ready at that time.

Yet we sit here and teams are requesting a young all star off the major league roster and the yankees best prospects in the system, and for what? For a 2/3 tweener starter? Or a #2 who has been inconsistent all year?

Sorry, its not comparable at all. Not even close.

This is bullshit.

At some point some of this needs to fall on the Yankees. 29 other clubs didn't form a pact against the Yankees.

So they're overvaluing their prospects, they're leaking BS requests to cover for themselves, they're misreading markets, etc.

This thread is like 5 pages of whining and claiming unfairness in the market. It's ridiculous.

I say this as a Yanks fan, I don't think they should have offered Garcia, and if the Jays were dead set on starting pitchers, I don't see a guy close enough to the majors, like Kay is, who dominated double A the Yanks could have offered.

Loaisiga is always hurt, Abreu just got hurt last week. Gil just got to high A and Schmidt is in high A.

Diaz has three innings this season where he gave up a total of 16 runs,. That means he only let up 6 runs in the other 37 innings...not horrible.

Yeah but you can remove the 3 worst perfomances for virtually every reliever and say the same thing. plus those were very high leverage innings so he basically cost the team those 3 games

Nobody said it's a pact against the Yankees.

But we've heard many examples of discussions opening with Torres, and they shouldn't. That's like discussions with the Angels opening with Trout or discussions with the Red Sox opening with Betts.

He is not and never will be available.

In 38 appearances this year, Familia gave up 27 earned runs in 12 innings and no runs inn 21 innings. The Mets were 6-8 in games he gave up runs and 15-9 in games he didn't.

In 44 appearances this year, Diaz gave up 22 earned runs in 8 2/3 innings and no runs in 31 1/3 innings. The Mets were 4-6 in games he gave up runs and 26-8 in games he didn't.

From this I'd say Diaz is a more reliable reliever. Obviously usage has something to do with this but usually both will only come into games with leads (overall 21-17 with Fam and 30-14 with Diaz).

Yeah.. Fusion GPS, Christopher Steel, Nelly Orr . All fiction. The director of the FBI leaking classified info through an associate to prompt the appointment of a special counsel, which upon conclusion finds nothing but your normal everyday DC bull****..Reads like Stephen King audiobook broadcast daily by your friends at CNN... Weird thing is, it's all true!!!

oh boy.......i wish I could retort and discuss this further but sadly it's against the rules.

Look I'm pretty logical. I'm not saying ZOMG COLLUSSIONS but it often seems that the Yankees definitely need to pay more than other teams for the same item in a trade. Just by being perceived as the big bad overspending always winning Yankees other teams will negotiate differently imo. No one wants to look bad making a trade, especially with the Yanks. Nothing tremendous but when your GM (Cashman) is not willing to overspend when he basically has to it can be frustrating. It's hard to prove one way or the other. You can be right and Cashman is sucking and making excuses. Or it can be somewhere in the middle.

It's not "unfair" and shouldn't be stated as such. It's the market. No collusion. We don't need any changes. It's just individual GM's wanting to get as much out of the Yankees as possible. Their prerogative, and it's how I see it and so I'll complain about it. And you can complain about our complaining too lol

Stroman’s dad confirmed that his son was hoping he’d be headed to the Bronx, not Queens, in an interview with Newsday.

“He was hoping it was the Yankees a little bit,” Earl Stroman told the paper. “He was kind of psyched, maybe hoping to go there. I’m not going to tell you that he wasn’t. If he was to leave Toronto at all. Don’t forget, Marcus loved Toronto, his heart was there. The brass [management] didn’t kind of appreciate him as much as the fans did. The whole country took to him and they took to me.”

It is the big team inferiority complex. It's why we've seen Justin Morneau win an MVP over Jeter, Matt Kemp robbed of MVP, Judge robbed of MVP and the collusion from all these teams. Some of these teams are more content with nuking their own as well as the Yankees as opposed to improving their own clubs.
