Rosario needs to go play winter ball in Mexico or somewhere and try CF. If he could be even average there it would be huge.
Does this idea come from CF being a more important position, or because of his struggles at SS this year?

the mets schedule after this series is brutal...aside from a 3 game series with the royals, 30 of the next 33 after this series are against braves, nats, phillies, indians, dodgers, dbacks, and cubs...so you'll find out in a hurry if this recent run is legit.

a non-mets fan would look at that and say 'they can control their own fate by beating the teams ahead of them for the wild card'

a mets fan would look at that and say 'LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL'

it comes from his lack of defense and range at short...also according to baseball prospectus the mets #1 and #3 prospects are shortstops, so if rosario can play center you could fill a need there while also opening a spot for one of those top prospects.

that said I'm not sure anyone with the team has ever said they wanted to move him from SS...

Wasn't Rosario touted as a five tool prospect? I feel like his bad defense came out of nowhere.

He’s definitely been better lately. I was watching the Mets-Pirates game the other day and the Mets booth said the analytics dept found he wasn’t set and ready on too many pitches per game and it was impacting his jumps and thus range.

So maybe they figured something out there.

What’s with all the move Rosario to CF noise anyway? Isn’t that just robbing Peter to pay Paul? Who’s gonna be the everyday SS if that were to happen?

Good stuff and hence why these past 6-7 series of ours vs the weak ass teams of the league were so important.

From looks of the remaining schedule one would think if Mets are going to pull it off and make the WC, they'd have to go something along the lines of 20-13 or around that neighborhood.

To be honest other than the Dodgers and the Braves, I don't see anyone in the NL that is clearly better than us and that includes the Nats,Cubs and Phillies.

I get it that we have our warts still but so do these other teams. I don't see why we can't as I said win close to 20 of these 33 games that come up especially considering there is no break at all for any of these opposing teams when it comes to our starting pitching....just sayin

The Mets IF defense is atrocious. Rosario has been part of that. Yet, he has good speed and a good arm. If he has the instincts for CF, he's more valuable there than SS.

As far as what you do with SS if you move him off, finding an all-glove SS isn't hard and would really help the staff. It would be a stopgap until Gimenez or Mauricio make it.

There is no long-term answer to CF in the organization. It's worth a shot with Rosario.

Kind of wish I could find a site that breaks down DRS by month. His April was atrocious. He has been better in the field since those error filled games early.

If anyone has a site that does that, I'd love to see it. It doesn't tell you the entire story, but it could be something tangible that says he has improved. Now, going from a -5 to a -2 is still bad, but anything closer to average could keep him there.

EDIT: Of course the tweet above gives me my answer, would still love to know where we could access it.

also has anyone with the team mentioned moving rosario or is this just fans talking like how we have people trying to move every rangers prospect to center?

You and me, brother. I've been itching for an easier way to do it

Fangraphs had his numbers deep in the red early in the season (which I remember seeing myself) and they haven't dipped much since which is where I believe Britton is making his observation.

Can we find anyone other than Altherr? What does he bring that Rajai Davis couldn't? I know they would need to DFA him, but he's awful. Davis can at least run and I'd trust him in CF more. Similar average and obp in AAA, just less power.

Diaz better figure his shit out but quick.

If I'm Calloway...get Lugo up and ready....gotta have this game.

Hopefully it's just me being my typical Met paranoid self

Pheww....Diaz finally gets it done albeit after alot of agida mixed in.

OK boys...we finally get to .500 mark for first time in forever.

2.5 games out of the WC. Let's pull the sweeperoo and win the 2nd game for the hell of it and keep this amazin run going....why not?

It feels strange to take a 23 year old that's struggling with his tough infield position and put him in a tough outfield position, but didn't realize the organizational stuff which makes sense.

Hey Tug...I know your up there in that Field of Dreams up above us but hope you don't mind if the 2019 Mets borrow from your 1973 Mets and use the "Ya Gotta Believe" moniker as it seems quite apropos?....

Diaz is an absolute adventure whether he gives up runs or not.

In any case............. we back at .500!

If you really think about it, when have we really ever had a closer that was lights out shut it the f*** down with no agida involved in our history?

For me it's like a rite of spring for us to always bitch and moan about our closer. Heck even Familia back in 2015 in his monster year imploded when it truly counted in the WS just like Armando Benitez did vs Yankees in the 2000 WS despite being en fuego most of the regular season.

If I really think about it, the last time we had a lights out closer was probably when Billy Wagner was here on those solid but just not good enough to get over the hump Met teams of '06 thru '08. Other than Wagner, I can't come up with anyone. Heck even Johnny Franco would give us agida....lol

I've read it dating back to last season on a number of different blogs, but I can't recall anyone with the organization actually suggesting it or acknowledging it was being considered.

I wouldn't move him anywhere mid-season. I mentioned earlier I'd like him to try it in winter ball and then in ST if it goes well. I have no idea if he can handle it, and definitely don't want to experiment during meaningful games.

If Rosario is competent at SS (the last few months and the stats shown earlier say he can be), I'd be inclined to try one of these kids in CF. They are young enough to get tons of MiLB reps and come up as a CF. Lagares started as a SS too and they moved him to CF.

If not, that should be priority #1 going into the offseason: find the future, if not current and future centerfielder for this franchise. I know the Royals didn't move Merrifield at the deadline, but I'd put that call in to see what the cost is.

A McNeil-Merrifield top of the order in front of Alonso/Conforto/Rosario combo would be very nice to have.
