Delusional quote from a delusional man.
When the goal is simply making the playoffs and you can only manage to do it on the very last game of the 162 game schedule...then yes, you get a bit worried that other teams are catching up.

On the other hand, if the goal is championships (which it's obviously not)…then it's totally ridiculous to talk about teams catching up to you when you lose every year.

The entire organization needs an exorcism. Getting rid of Boone and his coaching staff should just be the start. I'd get rid of Cashman too and start from scratch. Get a more analytics focused front office on board and let them choose their own staff. No hold overs from the previous regime. Scorched earth.

Then I'd address the roster. Sanchez, Odor, Gallo, Torres, Gardner. See ya. Thank goodness Kluber was only a one year prove it deal. He can go prove it elsewhere. Can't stay healthy. The bullpen was worn out by August. Who knows if Severino is going to be even a shadow of his former self? Montgomery is a 5th or 6th starter. German stunk and got lucky with good run support for the most part. They need another pitcher than can consistently put in 6+ innings. Tallon or whatever his name is was way too inconsistent. Another bottom of the rotation starter at best.

Good luck to us. A lot of work that needs to be done with diversifying the lineup, but the five players listed in the last paragraph should not have another at bat with this organization.

Tampa throttles us year in year out, 1/3 the salary and they follow the analytics bible as well. What are the Yanks doing so freakin wrong? I'd say it starts with drafting and development...

I’m a Mets fan so I’m not a Yankees expert here - but I don’t think a MORE analytical front office is the solution. They’ve been plenty data focused - almost too much. At least that’s what I got from a lot of the complaints on them over the past few years.

I'd be shocked honestly, and if that's the case, Cashman totally ignored it in his roster construction. For the past decade he's acquired all big feast or famine players that either hit home runs or struck out. LaMahieu is the lone anomaly that I can think of. The team needs a left bat or two and more players in the middle of and at the end of the batting order that can take more pitches and put the ball in play more.

But that is going too literal on analytics. and I'm a fan of analytics.

Alderson did the same with Mets for awhile. Focused on high BB rate, high power/exit velo guys. Which is fine. But they went overboard and built monolithic rosters where every guy was the same. You need a blend of hitters to balance the lineup.

A lot of people hate analytics because of this. The issue isn't analytics - do more or less. Its an issue with people interpreting things and applying it. They're way too reliant on singular focused data.

Buster Onley of ESPN reports that Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner is leaning toward keeping Aaron Boone as manager.

"He likes [Boone], and I don't think he blames him for what happened," Onley was told by one source. Boone's contract expires after the World Series, so he could theoretically walk if a better situation presents itself. The Padres have been mentioned as one possible landing spot. Onley reports that Astros bench coach Joe Espada is likely to be considered by the Yankees if Boone departs. Boone holds a 328-318 record in four seasons as New York's manager, though the club has yet to reach the World Series under his stewardship.

The franchise is lost in the wilderness. Hal is completely clueless.

Did ESPN mispell his name?

Ugh, have a nasty feeling Boston is going to go all the way again. Thanks Yankees and useless Rays for being their jumping off point...

Looks like we are going to be seeing a lockout in the MLB next year. This will be more catastrophic to the league than the NHL lockout. The MLB has some serious problems. The game is really boring, its highest paid players suck, and the owners have their heads up their own asses. MLB is in some serious trouble.

Both leagues need DH and a 20 second pitch clock. But the fundamental problem with baseball is there is no strategy anymore. Its all about homeruns.

Maybe we need pinch runners too. Who wants to see slow guys running the bases? Seriously, the games are too long for a variety of reasons but the games are only boring if you're expecting something from the game that it never had. Make the strikezones larger like in the past and teams will stop using homerun or bust offenses while average pitch counts and game length will drop.

It's just time for a regime change, pure and simple. In 23 years Cashman can actually be credited with one WS win. 98/99/2000 cannot be credited to Cashman, he just so happened to come on the scene at the right time. The roster was basically set. 2009 WS win with Sabathia and Teixeria being added via free agency belongs to the old man George who basically gave the order to add them. Granted you can't win all the playoff series to get to the big show but with all the money being spent there should be a better track record in 23 years.
I just look at this current roster, at the batting averages, the fielding, base running, mental mistakes and coupling that to the money being spent and I just come away shaking my head. It just seems like we are heading down instead of up.
To me it's not the money, it's being smarter.

Despite being much more successful than the Yankees in recent years, the Red Sox have fired several GMs. Cashman keeps on ticking because our ownership is incompetent.
