My feelings about this whole sign stealing fiasco: It's not about gamesmanship anymore. It used to be, if you can get a pitchers signs, good for you. In the past, if a guy on second was able to decipher it on a few pitches, that was part of the game. I think it's a different level now. It's not good.

Oh wait that was Justin Verlander's thoughts on it in 2017 when with the Tigers before being traded to the Astros.

new special aired on ESPN today Backstory - Banned for Life* on the lifetime bans of shoeless joe jackson and pete rose...fitting timing with all the cheating scandals going on. not much new info obviously but I thought it was well done and interesting.

can't help but shake your head at the fact that pete rose feels he reconfigured his life cause he now bets on baseball legally instead of illegally showing he still doesn't get it...

there was one tidbit on the black sox scandal that I'd probably heard but forgot and that was the idea that the black sox got the idea from accusations made against the cubs for throwing the 1918 world series against the red sox...I don't think anything was ever proven against the cubs but considering how long it was before either chicago team won again that definitely screams karma

Sounds like the Mets are focusing internally. Which given the timing, isn't the worst idea. Maybe just promote Muelens and get an experienced bench coach. But grabbing a manager from outside with the whole staff already assembled is rough. And there's no way they're paying for 2 people for each role if a new manager wants his guys in here.

Well yes, but it also makes a ton of sense. They already have a staff that's been together for months now, planning for the season. To scrap that all now, get someone in that has their own vision and possibly new staff is kind of crazy. If you want to go that route next season, you do it right.

Yeah, but I think because of the timing of all this, with the rest of the staff assembled and having been working together for some time, it's better to go that route that to bring in someone new who maybe wants to do some of his own things and shake it up a bit.

Still wouldn't be totally surprised if they went to Collins to see if he wanted to do another year as a placeholder until they could reboot next year. I wouldn't necessarily want that as Terry has major deficiencies, but I think the players like him and know him, and it wouldn't be much a transition. Who knows.

Collins would be a good stop-gap hire for 1-2 years. Francona's contract runs out in 2022.

The Mets are going to hire another cheap puppet who manages via Brodies texts. The Mets will miss the playoffs and hopefully by then Cohen has enough control to fire Van Wagenen (who told Wilpons Mets can win now) and hire a real GM who can bring in his own experienced manager.

But more importantly I have the perfect manager for the Astros.

Beltran

The Mets should have made the playoffs last year. They were the last team out. Cy Young pitcher and Rookie of the Year. And a good cast around them. They made moves to strengthen the BP--if those moves hadn't blown up in their faces, they're the WC team. Diaz alone, if he was 80% of what he was before, they're probably in. It is what it is. If the pen isn't shit this year, they'll be in the mix again.

They should just hire Collins and be done with it. Collins won't just blindly listen to Brodie. They won't fire him because they know there's no point trying to find someone else when Cohen is about to take control. Collins gets his year and is done, and then Cohen can start evaluating what he has and go from there.

We'll see. Hopefully baseball goes back to the old balls with the higher seams and Diaz gets his slider back. That would be huge for the Mets. I wouldn't mind Collins back for a year, I liked him. They're supposedly still talking to PIT about Marte too.

If it's Marte for Nimmo, I don't think I'm interested. Seems like Pagan for whoever that turn was that we did some years back.

I would be fine with Collins as well.

Interesting about the slider--what I had read in the middle of the season was that it was moving the same as it had, with the same velocity, but he was onl throwing it in the zone. And it's hittable when left in the zone. Would be huge if he could semi-recover, and if Familia could even keep the ERA around 4 and pitch in a 7th inning role or something.

Larry Walker and Derek Jeter elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Larry Walker election into the Hall of Fame in his last year of eligibility being on 304 out of 397 ballots (298 required).

all hall of fames are a joke...larry walker gets voted in in his 10th and final year. can someone please explain to me what he did this year to make him a hall of famer that weren't true the previous 9 years? either you are a hall of famer or you aren't. these idiot voters need to get over themselves.

Larry Walker has always deserved to be in the HoF. He was just kept out because Coors Field, same with Edgar Martinez because he was a DH.

I'm more annoyed at ONE person not including Jeter.

people that voted no in past years cause of coors field and then suddenly said yes cause its his last year are idiots and should have their votes taken away. no commentary on whether or not he deserves to be in, but he didn't become more deserving this year...

and same thing works the other way, peter gammons has always voted yes on larry walker and then suddenly this year changes his vote to no for no reason. morons all of them.

Agree with everything you said...well done. I a week ago after Beltran was being potentially canned, also advocated Brodie making a call to Collins to see if he wanted his old gig back. I'm stupefied as to why this hasn't been done yet.

This division once again will likely be the most competitive division in baseball and unfortunately for the Mets everything is going to have to go right in order for them to make the post season. A healthy Cespedes...a big as we all know but you never know as maybe the lure of money will be enough incentive for him to do what it takes to stay healthy and productive.

The Cespedes factor along with the addition of Betances and Diaz coming back to form, we definitively should be in the mix....we shalt see.

There should be an investigation as to what bird brain voter for the Hall didn't vote for Jeter for the HOF.

Seriously, I'd like to know who it was and what his or her reasoning was to not voting for him....totally asinine as Jeter is as hall of fame worthy as any player in the last 50 years!!
