Then maybe Cashman will be the only Yankees GM in history to have two consecutive decades where the team doesn't make the World Series. Damn lucky to have him and Hal, we Yankees fans are.

Giving Judge a long term deal at 31 will be disastrous for the franchise if he continues to show that he doesn't have the skill of staying healthy which he hasn't done throughout his career.

Betts got what, 10 million in arb. That was after 2 top ten MVP seasons (2nd, 6th) and two consecutive GG awards. At the time he only had missed 14 days to a concussion injure and then they signed a one year deal at 20 mil after he won the MVP award. Of course Aaron Judge has the one top ten MVP finish (2nd) and the ROY in same year and no GG. For some reason, these things count in arbitration. Big difference is Judge has missed 131 days due to injury.

I know you are just touting the economic reality that the Yankees brain trust has DECIDED THEMSELVES to work under. While it does mean we'll just have to accept it, it doesn't mean us fans have to happy about it. This era is feeling very much like the 80s era that a grew up on where the Yanks had the most wins of any MLB team during the decade but didn't have any world series wins to show for it.
Betts got $20 million. Plus I think you guys are forgetting that lemahieu will get extended after next year and you're going to pay him a lot more than his current contract.

Check again. Betts got 10 mil in arb year, won the MVP and then signed a one year 20 mil contract to avoid arbitration.

Red Sox: Boston inks MVP Mookie Betts to 1-year, $20 million deal

Re: DJ. Let's see if he can replicate his season again. He's only been an above average (+100 wRC+) hitter twice in his career now and he is going to be 32 yrs old after next season. Before the end of last season and his injury, ppl were putting money aside for DiDi. During this past offseason, there was no way the Yanks could afford any top line free agents because they'd have to pay Sanchez, etc. Fast forward a year on both of 'em and people don't want to pay them a dime....just saying things change.

For how long? And how many more innings did Cole throw than DeGrom?

DeGrom avg 207 in thrown the last three years. Cole avg 205.

Are you seriously comparing Trouba to Judge? Why not simply compare Superman to Underdog?

Are you being this obtuse on purpose? Am I comparing any aspect of Trouba to Judge or just your stated worry about the Rangers giving out a long term contract to an injury risk in one situation (Trouba) and totally ignoring it in another (Judge).

Forget about what the Yankees think for a second. What do you think? You aren't worried about Judge's injury history and the prospects of giving a guy with that history +300 mil in a contract that takes him to his late 30s? Just want to know.

Nats are doing what the Yankees couldn't do, and that is get to Cole and Verlander (and yes, I'm aware the Yankees got to Verlander early in game 5). They're also hitting with RISP so far

Nats about to do what the Yankees couldn't, and that's go up 2-0 on the Astros.

It's funny how sports work. Championship series? The Astros got almost all the breaks against the Yankees. This series so far? Nats are getting all the breaks right now

I think part of it is the Astros thinking they won the world series when they beat the Yankees and totally underestimating the Nats

The bullpen did. The Nats starters consistently go deep into games.

this. The Astros went out and got Verlander, Cole, and Greinke. The Nats went and got Scherzer and Corbin. Those teams are in the World Series. Each of those players clocked 5-7 WAR this season. The yankess didnt .their best starter had 2.1 WAR. The yankees are not playing in the World Series. You need elite starters going deep in games to win.

Because it worked for the Royals once, Cashman decided that relying on an elite bullpen was a sound strategy. Re-signing CC and Happ were terrible moves in keeping with Cashman's track record regarding starting pitching.
