The Yankees need to acquire more players like LeMahieu that hit for contact and try to put the ball in play rather than throw their back's out swinging for the fences. They have enough of those players already in Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez.

An ace of the rotation would help greatly, but the lack of killer instinct and the number of men LOB in scoring position is what lost the series and not the pitching.
This should be obvious based on the Astros and Red Sox dominating baseball in the last few years.

I've been so unenthusiastic about the Mets and their managerial search. My old man died two weeks ago today, and he was a huge fan. Since their inception. He f***ing hated Callaway. LOL. I didn't like Mickey but I had to defend him sometimes to my dad who was just irrational about it. Last thing I said to my dad was via text message letting him know they fired Mickey. He was so happy about that. I don't care who they hire, I just hope it doesn't piss my dad off from beyond. :(

The Yankees actually have some pretty good starters, but they fail to help them develop after getting to the majors.

It's hard to expect these guys to pitch later in games when every inning is stressful when they don't do it when the games aren't.

Too reliant on the bullpen in the regular season. Let your starters pitch. Paxton went 6 the other night and everyone was throwing a party for him. The best guys go 6 on the regular and when they are dominant, they go 7 or sometimes 8.

You have to let these guys sink or swim a little in the regular season so you can ask them to pitch longer when the games matter the most.

Thing is, I don't see this changing anytime soon. The whole league is going this way, but the teams that are in the WS let their guys pitch for the most part. Maybe it'll swing the other way
They ran to the bullpen at the first sign of trouble because we heard all year they want home field, and then Boone shut the team down when we had a chance at home field.

Not saying we would have gotten it anyway, but we absolutely didn't try after we clinched the division. We were still pretty close to Houston.

Sorry for your loss, buddy. This board is behind you.

the Astros batters, particularly 1-4, were just so obviously superiorly-coached than the Yanks throughout this series. They consistently displayed a more fundamental understanding of what to expect in the box.

For the entire team to have such clueless at bats, looking so bad, this deep into the series... yikes. To think there is a Yankee employee with the title of "hitting coach" or something like it, paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, who will likely keep his job after the performance of the Yankee bats in this series.
I would definitely like to see us with a new staff.

The hitting and pitching coaches are Girardi holdovers. There's a reason we moved on from that.

Cole just had a year for the ages. The chances of a replication is almost zero. You will be signing a 29 year old for no less than 7-8 years are more than $20m per and hoping that they reproduce something that is likely not happening.

And again, you are ignoring basic math. Would you rather have Judge and Torres here for the long haul or Cole?

There is no way of knowing if he won't replicate his year. But even if he doesn't he is still a damn good pitcher. Jacob deGrom will never replicate that sub era 2.0 season he had. Guess the Mets should have let him walk.

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. I appreciate it. The whole thing has just kind of put a damper on sports. Probably good, given the Rangers at the moment.

It's easier to hit home runs when you make contact.

yankees had the higher BA, OPS, Slg, OBP, ERA and WHIP in this series.

they hit 10 homers to the Astros 8.

both teams sucked with RISP but it seemed like the Astros came through there more often. They also got lucky as f*** on multiple occasions but that’s baseball.

I wasn't. Stanton is an injury prone, one dimensional player who was coming off a career year. Yelich is left handed, is better defensively and has speed. There are more ways that he helps a team win games than Stanton. Despite having every financial advantage, Cashman has been the architect of only one championship in 20 years as GM. Those late 90s teams were built by Stick Michael and Bob Watson. Most of his starting pitching acquisitions have been terrible. He also has no need for left handed power in Yankee Stadium. Something that has been highly successful for decades before he showed up. He traded for Encarnacion, a .230 hitter who can't play defense and has the speed of a glacier. How was that going to help the team? Cashman has made some good moves but he's also made a lot of terrible ones.
Left handed power or right handed power. It has made no difference. Encarnacion is a 30 homer, 100 RBI machine that can cheap and can be plugged into the DH slot. It was not a bad move.

As for pitching, almost no acquisitions have worked. Clemens and Wells have been the two that could handle NY. The Yankees are far better off developing their own pitchers who grow in NY and are used to the pressure than bringing in someone from the outside.

Stanton came at a price that Cashman could not say no to. Like you, I would have probably not brought him in, but I understand it. And looking at Yelich with the benefit of hind sight is not right either. Nor would the assets taken to obtain him. He has also been finding some absolute gems (Tauchman for example) in the systems of other teams.

Cashman may not be perfect. But overall, he is one of the top GM's in the business. The Yankees are lucky to have him.

My condolences. Very sorry for your loss.

That story hits close to home. My dad is the same with Calloway. No matter what happened in the Mets game, I know as soon as my dad's name lit up on my phone I was about to get a rant on Mickey.
