It will certainly move Ryan for Fregosi down a few notches. It's a trade we are going to be talking about forever. Every "Worst" listicle article ever is going to feature this one.
9 times out of 10 when you move a top prospect for a reliever, it's a bad trade. If there was a checklist to create the worst possible trade, every point was hit...trade away young talent, bring in a declining asset with a huge contract, add a player to who can’t be successful in a big market, have other players in the deal return to rival teams that directly end up being successful against your team...well done!
Also, as Ron commented in booth, Seth had been sitting in the dugout for almost 20 minutes while the Mets batted in the 9th.Don't really know what to say. Diaz has the stuff and killed it last season. Now, he's a shell of himself. Have no choice but to run it back with him. He has the talent.
Also anyone that complains about taking Lugo out, it's a 6 run lead. Can't keep him out there. The pen has to hold that. The only criticism is to go to Wilson over Avilan in that spot. Either way, you have to get 3 outs with a 6 run lead. The season is officially over.
Only thing worth seeing is Alonso and if he can hit 50.
So tell me, which team is actually a 1st place team? Outscored 17-8 thus far.
Multiple mental errors, bad defense, lousy relief pitching and lousy managing.
Go figure. Cant give those Metsies 4 outs nowadays.
Okay called 2 for Pete. Will accept 1, plus Nimmo's and 26 for Wilson. Nice.
Did I forget something? Oh yeah.....10 runs for a WIN for the unluckiest pitcher alive.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't last season the only real stellar season he had? I thought it odd at the time that the Mets would target someone who hadn't put up those numbers on a regular basis, especially giving up two top prospects AND taking on an albatross as well (oops -- forget it's the Mets!!!).Diaz has stuff too good to be struggling like this.its all mental and confidence issues with him at this point.has to be.
I really can’t blame Callaway for this one. They lost game 3 in Philly because he had to use Lugo the prior day for 2 innings. He wanted to avoid using him for 2 last night up 6 probably in hopes they could use him and sweep today (don’t forget Lugo sat for 25 minutes as the Mets had that long top of the 9th too). I didn’t even mind bringing Diaz in there given how he has looked recently and he had a couple of moderate leverage situations too. There definitely seems to be an issue with Diaz being unable to get up multiple times. There was some elite reliever about 10 years ago who had this problem, I can’t remember who but if you got him up once and sat him and warmed him again he usually didn’t pitch well
This has a collapse feel.
For as many nice catches that Conforto has made, there have been TWICE as many that he "almost" made. Positioning, positioning, positioning.Other than Lagares this outfield has no range
Subtract that trade and we have less congestion in the infield (McNeil playing 2nd or 3rd, Panik, Frazier and even J.D.)I don’t know how the damage from the Diaz/Cano trade gets undone.
Un-officially. Officially is 5 games out with 4 to play. Sorry.Don't really know what to say. Diaz has the stuff and killed it last season. Now, he's a shell of himself. Have no choice but to run it back with him. He has the talent.

Why, please tell me why he wasn't 10-15 feet from the wall playing NO doubles? That ball hit by Zimmerman should have been caught, but not necessarily Conforto's fault.
Naah, not so sure about that. Only 1 beats that. Tom Terrific for Zachary, Henderson, Flynn and Norman. Even though 3 of 4 were somewhat serviceable. It was more about WHO and WHY they traded Tom.It will certainly move Ryan for Fregosi down a few notches.
3 things I hate about Diaz.Diaz has stuff too good to be struggling like this.its all mental and confidence issues with him at this point.has to be.
Totally agree with you. Fly balls are caught, but anything resembling a line drive is "oh please, catch that!" It's an adventure for anyone not named Lagares. It doesnt come naturally to any of them, they all try but you can tell. Bad jumps, and almost catches. If I remember correctly Conforto didn't really have a position. I give him credit for being somewhat adequate......just not naturally an outfielder.Even the balls that they do get, they don't inspire my confidence. They just don't look good tracking down flies. Even the shot that hit the wall on Nimmo, I just feel that an outfielder should have tracked that down and caught it. An outfield with range and skill limitations definitely needs positioning to make up for the disadvantage.
That trade will always be #1 on my list.....Always thought they could have gotten way more than that.Naah, not so sure about that. Only 1 beats that. Tom Terrific for Zachary, Henderson, Flynn and Norman. Even though 3 of 4 were somewhat serviceable. It was more about WHO and WHY they traded Tom.
So, what were the odds in a deGrom/Scherzer match-up that you bet both teams combining for 22 or over?Lol I totally forgot about DeGrom in this game
