Bonds' reputation suffered the most of steroid users. He was one of the best all time pre-juice and now can't sniff the HOF.

Ironic because the pitchers who would intentionally walk him with the bases loaded were also juiced up.

Ken Griffey's highest OPS in a season is 1.076

A 1.076 OPS would be tied for Bonds' 8th best season.

Griffey's highest OPS+ in any season ever is 171. Bonds averaged a 182 for his entire 22 year career. They aren't comparable.

6 of those 8 top OPS Bonds seasons you mention came when he was clearly roided out and his head became size of a watermellon. You can't discount that...sorry.

If you look at both for their first 10 years, they are very close hitting wise as I indicated last night when I posted it...go back a page and see for yourself as I'm too lazy to do it again.

When you add in the fact that Griffey was a much superior defender, it tips it for me Junior over Bonds.

Bonds never failed a test. Bonds never got suspended for these things. He was absolutely using them but the MLB didn't care. They made a bazillion dollars off of it but then also got to be their own sheriff later. These steroid guys 'saved' baseball after the '94 strike until baseball decided they didn't like steroids anymore so now many of these surefire legends aren't hall of famers but Bud Selig gets to be even though he knew what was going on.

The sport has over 100 years of cheating and diluted competitive fields in its history but then it was decided that steroids were the only invalidating factor.

The main difference between Bonds and Griffey’s reputation isn’t steroids. Plenty of steroid users have good reputations. ARod completely rehabilitated his, Ortiz was on the report, etc. it’s the Bonds was seen as a bad guy and Griffey was extremely personable and enthusiastic.

If you average a 182 OPS+ over 22 years, I don't care if you injected the blood of Jesus Christ into your veins.

He was a good hitter. He crowded the plate so hard and he had such a quick swing you either hit him or he knocked it out of the park. He was also one of the first if not the first to go up to the plate wearing body armor.

Matz after a shakey start settles down and pitches a heck of a game.

JD comes thru once again and so here we are up 2-1 with our best reliever Lugo in the game.

This would be a sweet win if we can hold on....c'mom Mets...you guys can do it.

not a fan of pulling matz who was great and only at 79 pitches...thats a move that the other team loves to see. just look on the flipside you had nothing against keuchel and then he comes out and you immediately score on their bullpen. but he was at 98 pitches

I like that they still made him bat though because he was a bigger threat at the plate than the bench

i think if they were losing 1-0 he would still be leading. they went to lugo when they got the lead to 'protect' it. which is looking great so far

its bad enough that mickey cost us this game. but is he gonna leave lugo in till everyone on the braves gets a hit?

They did go to their best reliever who just didn't have it tonight which sucks but it happens.

Lugo was on a god run but got blooped to death tonight.

Absolutely ridiculous....getting singled to death.

This is the way it's going to be going forward I'm afraid.

We somehow need to figure out a way to hang around .500 and with no McNeil, that's going to be tough....ugggggg

f***ing pissed. Why take Matz out after 79 pitches after retiring last 14 batters in a row Mickey? Why...why?

Keep him in for one more inning and than you let Lugo finish the 8th and 9th. Stupid move and it cost us a very winnable game. Damn. Now we need Stromen..I think it's Stromen tomorrow who needs to shut the Braves down and allow us to sneak out of here with at least one win.

I was fine with just one win in the series but a sweep would put us behind the 8 ball. Mets better figure it out but quick otherwise we are going to fall behind again in the WC race again even after all that magic the past few weeks.

I tell ya, it is so hard to be a fan of this team...they drive you nuts.

Mets are currently 2-3 in this awfully tough 34 games we have till mid-September that started with the Nats series. I was thinking we need to go no worse than 17-17 and anything better would be part of the bonus plan.

Bottom line is we need to hang around .500 which tho not easy is doable. We have the Royals next at their place. Not even a question that we have to have take 2 of 3 at very worst tho if we get swept here in Atlanta, I think we need to sweep Royals otherwise this thing can get out of control.

Tomorrow is crucial. Have to figure out a way to beat these guys and win simple as that and we'll all be feeling a bit better. Right now tho...feels pretty sucky!
