What the ****

Foot, hand AND mouth?
A virus kids tend to get but adults can contract as well. Flu like symptoms with a rash most often occurring on the hands, feet and mouth. Most contagious during the first week of symptoms but can remain contagious for weeks...

the mets aren't seeking talent. they are looking for teams to take full salary and give them cash

and they won't trade degrom or thor to the yankees because they care more about potentially helping the yanks win than helping their own team. they would rather never win again and watch them walk then have to see degrom on the backpage helping the yankees win even if the trade would rebuild the whole team in one move. common sense doesn't apply to the wilpons

Lol, the deal is ****ing hilariously bad. Mets didn't even bother to contact other teams who would've easily upped their offers.

Non-elite rental relievers don't have much value. Wahl can be a decent bullpen piece in the future, international money will help a lot during a rebuild and Fangraphs seems to like Toffey. I don't think it's bad - he's not Chapman.

The idea that this is a remotely good trade is comical at best.

No one was asking for a Chapman deal.

keith law wrote that the familia trade should be grounds for MLB to take the team away from the wilpons lol

They should step in.

They're the 6th most valuable MLB franchise according to Forbes. If you take out Wright's insured 15m (75% of 20m), their payroll is around 18th-20th in the league. Right with Arizona, KC, and Atlanta. It's laughable.

They're a joke. They made 330m in revenue, and act like a team that makes half that cause the owners are up to their eyes in debt. Every move is made to limit financial liability. Signing players to 1/2 year deals with higher AAV cause they know if they suck, they can just dump the contract by taking a lesser return in a deal.

He isn't Chapman, but what have comparable receivers returned in recent years? The Royals didn't get much for Kelvin Herrera either. IIRC they didn't even get a top 10 prospects from Nats system (12th and 17th).

It seems GMs are finally learning not to blow it all away on relievers who have minimal impact on the grand scheme over a season. But then you see what the Indians gave up for Brad Hand and you rethink that lol.

Right. The complaints are mainly based on how they approached this deal. They said they would be willing to eat money for a better return, yet they do the exact opposite and trade him for full salary. They moved him 10 days earlier than they had to, and even other teams are speaking out wondering why they didn't re-circle the wagons. It's just another LOLmets notch to add to the Wilpons' belt.

Hand got a lot more (too much) because he’s signed cheap for 3 more years.

Upcoming UFA relievers really don’t have much value. Chapman trade is an exception.

I think the trade is fine. Wahl sounds like he could be a potentially viable reliever and the bonus money has value. It’s basically like trading for draft picks in other leagues.

What have other upcoming UFA relievers got in recent years? Not a reliever but keep in mind JD Martinez was dealt last year as an upcoming UFA for a very weak return. Teams aren’t really dealing much for rentals anymore. Machado got a bunch of prospects but he didn’t land any top prospects either.

Pretty much. Not sure what value everyone else was expecting.

the issue with the trade is that the objective is always about $$. a properly run team would eat salary to get a better return looking at it as still saving vs paying the whole thing. but the mets don't care what players they get back, they just want the other team to take the full salary and in this case got an additional $1 mil too. the only reason why they got players back is cause you can't just trade a player for cash

Addison Reed got a similar package last year why was there no outrage there?

there was but it was made at the deadline so the complaining got blurred with the complaining about the other awful trades

Somehow The “well, actually” Yankee fan is worse than the Yankee fan that laughs at this.

Its the money part. They asked the Oakland A’s to cover the salary. The OAKLAND A’s.

Honestly, Mets might need the money. The amount of cash they have tied up this season in guys who have been constantly hurt/statistically worthless is amazing.

Cespedes - $29M
Bruce - $11M
Ramos - $9.22M
Frazier- $8M
Blevins - $7M
Lagares - $6.5M
Vargas - $6M
Swarzak - $5.5M

$82.22 Million

But they also got two other pieces and international slot money to get more kids into the system.

International bonus money is not the same thing as getting cash back

Familia has never been reliable. While I think Keith Law's conclusion is correct, it's based on a false premise. The trade is not terrible (mediocre player for mediocre players) and there are so many worse things the Wilpons have done to mismanage the organization for MLB to step in.

the only reason why they got players back is cause you can't just trade a player for cash
Yes you can. See article XXIII(C)(2)(b)(iii) of cba.
