Rumor: Things Not Left Unsaid - Flyers Rumors And Media Mentions 4: Say, Say, Say What You Want But Don’t Play Games With My Attention

Oh, goodie, the "we're never f***ing doing anything" apologist brigade is spinning up the pablum generators.

Step 1: The Flyers will be active at the deadline
Step 2: No, they won't be active, but it's not a big deal
Step 3: It's actually a good thing they won't be active
Step 4: People freaking out about the Flyers not being active are the real problem

I can realistically see this FO approaching their handling of Laughton as proof that they do good by their players, which they will want to feed the narrative of the Flyers as a place players want to come. However, it will reinforce the perspective that they prioritize veteran "good soldier" types.
While in the same breath flipping a player they spoke highly of and targeted

A quiet deadline is just another feather in the “this isn’t a rebuild” cap.

They can’t trade anyone that doesn’t directly feud with the coach. Not a single person. That’s all that matters.

They’re not building anything.

They replaced Giroux with Michkov. That's about it. Where's the Couturier? Where's the Voracek? Where's the...?

What i'm getting at is THOSE teams weren't good enough to win but because it's a "New Era" magically everything will be better. Cool, you have a lot of first round picks in one year. That doesn't build a contender.

I believe that this is a decent market for Laughton and Ristolainen. It’s just that the FO shoots itself in the foot with their public comments. The GM and the coach contradict each other on availability and terms for a trade. Other organizations are probably put off by this and don’t know how to interact with the Flyers.
Then there is the problem with the Flyers can be had in a transaction. The Gauthier and failed Krug-Sanheim fiasco give other clubs the idea that Briere can be rolled. Philly has put itself into a tough situation.

It is absolutely a seller's market, very few teams are absolutely out of it and many teams are looking to add. Flyers could clean up if they were actually making rebuilding moves.

Welcome to the yearly "can the flyers make a run like torts hopes and make the playoffs" stage of the season where we make bad decisions for the future, and the team plays it's way out of getting an impactful player in the draft after another year of misery. This is beyond a joke at this point.

For those more in the know…

Marco Rossi seems like a good offer sheet target right? He’s putting up very strong points and seems to be driving whatever line he’s on. I think the wild are still in cap trouble. He’s not far off from a PPG center. We could offer him even 9 million if we had to and only cost us one 1st and a few other picks.

If we are considering doing that, I’d prefer Johnston in Dallas.

What are defining as a decent market for both? Laughton can be moved for a pick sure. Risto with retention or a contract coming back that offsets some of the acquiring teams Risto hit can also be moved.

Thing is as many know, the Flyers value both players more than the other teams in the league. They have set a price that is probably not going to be met unless something changes in the next few days. The fact the Flyers see these 2 as core members of the team is going forward is beyond laughable. If Laughton is not moved there is little doubt that he will extend come July 2025.

Neither player is the answer to get any team over the top. Risto can help a team’s bottom pair and move up on a very short term basis. Laughton is your average who will fill a bottom 6 role.
