Best thing for the club is to get a new manager in there for a team hungry to prove itself after falling on its face after a recent WS birth. A healthy Yoenis and Noah give the team an extra 5~ wins together, but even then the Nationals are still scary good and handily in the lead. Terry has had a long and pretty good (all things considered) run here, so he should split before there aren't any positive recollections of his tenure here.
I like Bruce, but think there's no room for him. The Mets need a good CF to let Yoenis and Conforto excel with their athleticism in a smaller range. You guys are definitely right, the defense is bad enough right now to actively subvert what is supposed to be the team's biggest strength: I don't think there's a +defender on the roster who has appeared in more than 50 games (without checking: as i look now, Rene Rivera, Juan!, and Walker come close and that's it) Juan was supposed to be the guy but he can't hit MLB pitching well, even with stellar SSS defensive metrics this season.
Do they move Bruce to first? Can he platoon or piggyback or protect Dom Smith? With a full season of Rosario at SS the infield D should look at least a smidge better. Definitely need at least one plus defender in the OF.
And of course, it feels like any speculating with the Wilpons at is risky. They sunk big money into Yo, so who knows what they have left to invest.
That being said, we're all foolish to not put our homer hats on and say the Mets are a healthy full season of Noah, Conforto, Rosario, DeGrom, Yoenis, and just one more pitcher away from a 90 win season next year.
