This tells me the Yankees weren't going to protect Littell from the rule 5 and just wanted something from him. meh, I'm higher on Littell than the Yankees are I guess.

Thats not an excuse to move him for Jamie Garcia.

Just a dumb move. People are already playing the "this gives them leverage with Oakland" card but they'll overpay there too.

Just completely unnecessary.

it gives them leverage as far as needing another SP tho however, Garcia is an upgrade from cessa/smith, if you don't like the Gray price, walk away

Garcia becomes your 4th/5th.

There was a 40 man roster issue with Littell. He wasnt being called up tomorrow. Maybe not even next year at some point. This is a fair move.

Montgomery also believed to be on innings limit. Yankees can go to 6 man rotation to preserve CC, extend Monty deeper into season, and Tanaka has historically done well with extra days rest.

Still in on Gray

but they don't have to be "all in" on him now, with the way Tanaka has thrown lately (3.33 ERA over last 9) and Severino, I'd take chances with them as the 1/2 in the playoffs with a deadly pen and good offense.

our price for Gray, or walk away.

That may be the worst trade Cashman has ever made.

I can't even pin that one on Levine being a dope, I doubt he has any idea who Jamie Garcia is.

You hate every trade the Yankees discuss or make. You literally want to keep all of their prospects. You do realize that had the Yankees kept all their prospects (or sold players for more) that they would be screwed with the rule 5, right? They have too many prospects. They can't protect all these guys. Getting some who might help them have a hail mary shot this year is worth it.

Is Littell a year away? 2? 3? He is the teams 22nd ranked prospect. Not really up in arms about the deal really

1.5 to 2 most likely. I have him in the same category as I had Montgomery very under the radar, the only difference is Montgomery throws much harder.

If they're going to gut their farm, they should do it for players who are worth it.

They're going to end up getting a pair of relievers, a ****** corner infielder, a #5 starter (at best) and an undersized/injury prone #2/3 once the Gray debacle concludes.

Thats poor asset management. I also happen to think that Littell was worth protecting and could have been a part of the rotation sometime next year, so theres that too.

This trade was very stupid, more so than the Chicago one which I didn't like either but at least they got back 1 excellent piece in that deal, even if it was a reliever.

Why are you so against Robertson? Robertson is a very good reliever still, so they got back 2 excellent pieces, and the Gray trade hasn't happened.

and the Yankees wont "gut their farm" unless they're trading for Darvish, Hand and Wilson as well. I don't think people realize how good the Yankees farm is, we have guys who have higher ceilings than guys on our own "top 30"

Both sliders had very little bite and sat in the middle of the plate. You don't understand the game as much as you think.

Two pitches. And the batter didnt get the best of them each time. The "bite" couldnt have been that awful. He was very solid outside of those pitches.

Complainers gona complain.

Just because you have a deep farm, it doesn't give Cashman the excuse to make bad deals.

I'm not down on DRob either, I don't think hes an excellent piece though.

Fair points and I agree, but no one wanted to move the top guys for players that are worth it (Ie Quintana, Sale).

The white sox deal was in no way bad.. Rutherford might end up good, but he likely wouldn't see the Yankees OF and if his power never comes he will never be as rated as high as he was right now.

Quintana is not worth what he returned.

But at least the Cubs are an established contender.

and you don't think the Yankees with Tanaka (Gray, even if they overpay), Severino a dominant bullpen and a good lineup would be?

That's better than what the Cubs have.

6-gm win streak has pushed Yankees' run differential to +117, 2nd in AL (HOU). Based on run differential, their expected W-L is 62-40. (1/2)

The Cubs have made the NLCS and won the WS in the last 2 seasons.

Yeah, I think they're a tad bit more established than the Yankees are.

They didn't start to get crazy with trades until last year when they were running through the league and were pegged as the WS favorite.

I don't understand the rush with the Yankees. They're not a contender and even with Gray, I don't see them taking out Houston or Cleveland, particularly the Indians.
