I dont want to see the Yankees go "all in" but how do you explain to your players that you're .5 game out of the division lead, leading the WC and you dont do anything to upgrade the starting rotation?.. I mean how much confidence can the team have in Cessa every 5th day

I mean yes you upgrade the pen, but Cessa is still going out there every 5th day (or Caleb Smith).

Yanks should definitely add. They're gonna need SP depth anyway so they might as well start acquiring it while the team is stacked with young MLB talent. A run this year with a SP that also gives them 4-5 WAR for a couple of years after would be a great get, since AFAIK you guys have two good starters and that's it.

and apparently because of a lack of 3rd pitch and an innings limit, Chance Adams wont be an option after the deadline.

Getting closer to what exactly? He's a career .246 hitter who hit .225 last year and is even worse this year. Do you want him getting important at bats in the postseason if we get there? I sure as hell don't.
He has been putting the ball in play. He is just getting under some pitches and his timing is slightly off. He has also hit some balls hard right at people. So yea I have no problem with him getting at bats in the postseason. He is the ****ing 7-8 hitter in the lineup for ****s sake and he is a minimum 25+ HR righty bat 3B per year. Enough with the *****ing and comparing him to Chris Carter who looked lifeless up there. The eye test in Baseball, unlike Hockey, is very important because of how the game is structured and played.

Show me a lineup in the league that 1-9 they are hitting .300+. How about .275+? A career .246 hitter who averages 25+ HR per year, ill take that.

Carter has a higher wRC+ than Frazier over:

The last 1 calendar year
The last 2 calendar years
The last 3 calendar years
The last 4 calendar years (a tie at 109)
The last 5 calendar years
The last 6 calendar years

He's always been a better hitter and still is. A few months of one year (where neither has been good) doesn't change that. Frazier is the overall better player due to defense.

Beane has been asking for Torres for Frazier according to whats been put out there by Heyman.

He wants a Quintana package for Gray. He won't get one, but the Yankees shouldn't even be playing around with the idea of trading for Gray because it won't be much cheaper than that (not Mateo or Florial, but both plus others.)

They're not getting Torres or Frazier.

and I'm not talking about Gray, what about a Lance Lynn rental? I'm talking about just someone better than Cessa/Smith.

not like CC/Tanaka/Sev/Monty are coming out of the rotation anyway.

if the yanks get darvish without giving up torres frazier, etc..i think they are legit WS contenders for a few years...i think Darvish re-signs here.

I mean lets be real, Yankees aren't going to remove their 22M dollar supposed to be ace from the rotation.

Severino is the ace, Montgomery has been good and Sabathia has been good. Gray only makes sense because he helps beyond this year, but THIS year we're basically looking for someone better than Cessa to get the ball every 5th day.

I don't know man, Darvish has been awful in his last 13 starts, something like a 5 ERA + over them, I don't know if we should really throw 100+M and 5/6 years at him when he's gonna be 31?.

Well he gave up 10 earned in 3+ the other night so thats going to skew the numbers a bit.

Over his last 13 starts, hes only gotten bombed in 3 of them.

Hes going to get at least the cueto contract which was 7 years at 155 IIRC. I don't want him at those numbers. I'd rather throw the bank at Otani who could even DH for this team when he doesn't pitch.

If he comes this off season he will fall under the IFA bonus pool money, he wont be coming here for money if he does come to the states lol. Although he will still make more than he did in Japan

Darvishs last game killed his stats. hes had 2 rough games in the past 5 thats skewed everything..

and really theres a 3rd in there that wasnt great either... (5ip 5 er)

but the other games are solid.
8ip 3er
6.2/2
7.1/2
6/2
7/0
7/1
7.1/3

etc

I'm always wary about long term deals to pitchers over 30 now tho.. I do like Darvish always have should have gotten him to begin with but now he's gonna get A LOT of money and we already have Tanaka who has underperformed this season (hopefully an aberration).

The prospect the Yankees....are considering dealing to the A's for starting pitcher Sonny Gray....reminds his manager of one of the best center fielders of the last decade.
Estevan Florial, 19, is "similar to Adam Jones," Low-A Charleston manager Pat Osborn said in a phone interview Friday afternoon. "But Flo has got a chance to be a better defender and run better."

I'm not totally sold on that. I think the Yankees would have a great shot at re signing him compared to say the Nats, but I would worry about LA being a hard to turn down location. A huge factor being the Japanese guys love playing on the west coast

Would love to see Darvish in NY (easy viewing!), though obviously there is a lot of complications to how effective he would be.

and if he tanks, the Yankees have no reason to really try to re sign him so you're giving up a good prospect or two to make a run at it this year only. That's the reason I'm interested in Gray, he's more 2.5 years than this year only.

With @clintfrazier's fifth-inning HR, he now has 22H, with 12 going for extra bases (6 doubles, 2 triples, 4HR). Is 7-for-17 (.412) w/ RISP

He's going nowhere, including Scranton.
