I like Rutherford's potential over Mateo for sure, and maybe even Florial.

We don't know how Fowler will do once he comes back from his injury. I think his hitting will be fine, but his outfield defense will be the biggest question mark.

I'd give Florial and Mateo as a starting point, and maybe even include Wade.

Well yes but That's why his value is higher and we have 5 MLB ready OFs as it is.. Judge > Frazier > Hicks > Rutherord > others

Not the season to be buying in my opinion. The Yankees don't seem like a legitimate contender this year. I don't see any of the available players making them a better team than Houston.

I agree Not to rent anyone. They could use a young cost controlled SP like Gray tho.

Future outfield as of now is Frazier-Rutherford-Judge , Hicks as probably the 4th outfielder. Florial could be trade bait, and who knows how Fowler will do coming back.

Note, that's not including if Harper signs with the Yankees.

This is true, but he is a major injury risk going forward.

Him being under team control means nothing if he can't stay healthy enough to pitch.

Also Florial>Rutherford, but I'd send neither of them along for Gray.

What about if you get Yonder Alonso in return as well?

If I'm Sandy Alderson I call the Dodgers and ask what they'll give me for Reed. I want them to be next to impossible to beat in the LCS vs the Nats and that pretty much makes them close to impossible to beat. Also they probably won't re sign him. In this scenario I'm thinking trade him somewhere you feel he won't stay so you have a shot at him come December

Sorry but he should trade reed for the best offer, not to spite a particular team.

Best offer would come from Washington probably and he's not going there. LA would likely be able to offer something pretty good in return. They're also desperate to make a deep run and have a deep system to sell from

Why would you refuse to trade him to the Nats?

Why would you refuse to trade him to the Nats?

Division rivals rarely if ever help each other unless the selling team is a bottom feeder who is years away from contending. In this case you have a good team having a lousy year. Also remember Reed is likely going to want a closers role as a free agent. The only team he would probably consider signing with for a setup role is the Mets because he's been here for 3 years. The Nats need a closer this winter, you don't want to give them Reed allowing them an exclusive negotiating window prior to free agency. Also don't want to risk he find himself comfortable in the area and decides to stay.

You act like the Nationals wouldn't be able to get bullpen help somewhere else

They just made a trade with Oakland to strengthen that area. My guess is that they aren't done and will likely end up with a better arm than Reed before the 31st.

Reed, Curtis, and Bruce should, between the three of them, bring back at least one entertaining piece to watch for the next couple of seasons.

Of course they can get help elsewhere, and I think the Mets are quite content to let that happen.

It really depends on what you get back. If the Mets consider themselves out of it why would they care if the Nats get a rental? Mets can already find out what Reed wants next year and let him know where they stand before they trade him. I doubt the exclusive negotiating window is going to have much value.

Much worse if they deal with the Yanks IMO.

I'd include either one for Gray, Yankees are loaded in the OF... Gray is a lot better than people think, and his injuries I think are a bit overblown, before last year made 33 starts in both seasons and pitched over 200 innings. its really only been last year that really affected him.

Bartolo Colon starting tonight..

Reed is the best guy available other than Robertson who won't happen because they don't want to take on the salary and the Sox are demanding Robles

Hand is better than Reed too and other guys will become available in the next few weeks as teams fall further out of it.

The Mets will get a good piece for Reed though.

After talking with my uncle today, and thinking it over some more, I wouldn't mind the Yankees trading for Alonso/Gray depending on what pieces they gave up.

My uncle suggested Frazier straight up for Gray, and no way did I agree with him there. That being said, I'd start with a package of Florial, Mateo and Wade.

Alonso is what scares me more than Gray. Alonso has never even come close to a season like this. Is this a fluke? Contract year playing a factor?
