Does anyone else notice that Matz has a bunch of tendencies to be like Niese when something goes wrong behind him in the field or he gives up a bad hit? He more or less looked like he just gave up vs Arenado today and said just hit it, I don't care.

Don't think so, I really like his demeanor. He's Harvey on the mound in those key situations, but can back it up, something Harvey can no longer do. Just a bad game, not been his year or the team's year. Regroup for next year, and I think he'll be fine.

I think he's good for about 30 HR's a season and a 260-280 batting avg.

That's still really good, it's just not realistic to expect him to repeat his first half numbers again.

I had pegged for being around a career .260-.270 batting average. If he can be between a .280-.290 batting average, with 40-45 home runs type hitter, then that's still an impact player.

I don't think he's a career .300 plus batting average hitter, but who knows.

You're selling him short by saying he's only good for around 30 home runs a year. He has 40-50 home runs a year potential.

Lol no one expects him to repeat 1st half numbers.

Who is the last player to average 40-50 home runs?

He had to slow down a little eventually. That's not an indictment of him as a player but he was hitting at an absurd pace pre-All Star Game.

I'm pretty sure he's has been (and near/around) a 200 wRC+ player in the now past first half. I want Judge to be as good as possible but he's a rookie hitting like Mickey Mantle.

Should just cut this guy now or take any trade offer you can get. Why are they so scared of Cabrera? He's a below-average player, has never been all that good. He doesn't deserve extra respect. You act out, you go.

According to one person familiar with management’s thinking, Rosario has been kept at Class-AAA because of Asdrubal Cabrera’s unhappiness at being shifted to second base. The veteran publicly asked for a trade last month and has quietly seethed ever since. The Mets apparently believe an unsettled clubhouse is reason enough to keep their supernova as far away as possible. What does Rosario have to do with any of this? Even though he would theoretically replace Reyes, the Mets are worried Cabrera’s dissatisfaction would have a corrosive effect on those around him. Shortstop has been Cabrera’s primary position over an 11-year career and he undoubtedly feels he deserves another shot.

To be fair to Judge, he had a homerun signed, sealed, and delivered tonight.

Maybe the play of the year so far by Bradley Jr.

Who is the last player to average 40-50 home runs?

The two scariest hitters in the past generation or more of players that I recall were Bonds towards the end of his career and Pujols in the early-2000s. They hit for great average, got on base a ton, and hit for immense power. Even then, Pujols only had a four-year stretch of 40-plus homers and the same for Bonds (and they both did it in a bit of a different era, with other factors at play).

I would guess Judge settles in at a consistent 35-plus home run level with a number of 40-plus seasons in the mix. Consistently hitting 40-50 home runs would make him one of the all-time greatest players to play the game, and while that's possible, I think it's a little early to make that projection for him.

It's also worth mentioning that offense has been trending up, particularly this year and specifically with homers, from what I've read. Something like 500 more home runs projected in this season than in any previous season, which is absolutely insane. We all know there's an ebb and flow between offense and pitching in baseball and it remains to be seen how long this power surge lasts. Baseball always seems to correct itself when one aspect takes over completely.

Yankees just can't win a damn series. It has to be close to a month now they haven't taken 2/3 or 3/4 :shakehead

They basically got 2 gifts from closers in the last few games too and came out completely flat the next day both times and did nothing with the momentum. I'm pretty sure Joe Benigno won't be too happy when he comes back from vacation about that 86 or 87 win bet he's been talking about all season long which he thought he had locked up when they were 15 over .500

What a jynx he is

I think either him or Francessa had a stat back when the Yankees were 15 over that only 2 teams who were 15 over through that many games failed to win 82 but that many failed to win 87 so they were still 50/50 at that point probably.

Not much of Francesca listener. He's really gotten bad over the past few years.
