That’s 51m per vs 47.5. I’d say the extra year was massive compared to just the 5m.Wait...5M (.6% of total contract value) and 1 less year was really it?
I don't buy it.

The Yankees will now do nothing and say "what do you want? We tried to sign Soto."Did the Yankees offer include the 2029 opt out? If not that was probably the deal breaker.
Will be interested to see what the Yankees do now.
Ton of pressure on Soto now, but he's always performed at an elite level.
Going to little brother. Yankee fans gonna hate him forever.
As a Yankee fan Im fine with this. If he left over that small percentage then he really had no loyalty to the Yanks at all. Hopefully we can make good use of that money elsewhere.Wait...5M (.6% of total contract value) and 1 less year was really it?

Why does he have no loyalty? He played a whopping 180 games for the Yankees in his career. The Yankees didn't sign or develop him.As a Yankee fan Im fine with this. I think you just answered your own question. I have no problem with it. I didn't want to sign him to that deal anyway. He has every right to take the largest offer but you can't say he had any loyalty to the Yankees. Why does he have no loyalty? He played a whopping 180 games for the Yankees in his career. Every single person knew this a year ago. Juan Soto was signing for the most money he gets offered. He was offered the most by the Mets.
Why would anyone expect him to have any loyalty to the Yankees? I don’t get why that would be brought up or thought about at all.I think you just answered your own question. I remember Parker as a Pittsburgh sluggerDick Allen & Dave Parker joined the HoF.

the idea is that it's a privilege to don the jersey... that every player wants to be a part of the yankee legacy. it's a way of saying "if he doesn't want to be here, he can't handle it, he's less valuable and we never wanted him anyway."Why would anyone expect him to have any loyalty to the Yankees?
