I understood the need for Machado when they hadn't signed LaMahieu. Now, signing LaMahieu just looks like burning money.
I think even if we sign a Machado/Harper, we are still behind the Red Sox/Astros in overall quality.
I mean they're all 100+ win teams at this point. For one to make it "not close" would probably require some luck. I don't think the Red Sox were 8-games better than the Yankees last year, based just on talent, but sometimes it doesn't play out the way you think it would on paper.Nah, I'd argue the Yankees are a slightly better team than the Astros and Red Sox based on how this offseason has gone.
Add a Harper/Machado? Then it's really not even close at that point.
I dont think so.I think even if we sign a Machado/Harper, we are still behind the Red Sox/Astros in overall quality.
Yeah, honestly, I still kinda of want another good starter. Hopefully Montgomery can come back healthy, that would be a big add.I think the Yanks, even with Paxton and Haap, are thin at SP
Yep.The rotation is good as is, but one injury and we're back on the Cessa wagon.

Yep.
It's a good thing that pitchers aren't the most volatile, oft injured position in sports!
...oh wait.
they're gonna get Kyle Tucker as well Lol.Houston is the best team in baseball IMO. Correa, Altuve and Springer all had down seasons last year. They added a very good player in Brantley. Pitching wise they are worse off losing Keuchel and Morton but they still have an excellent trio of Cole/Verlander/McCullers and we'll see Whitley at some point too.

McCullers is out for the entire season with TJ. Sooo you have 2 proven starters and one great prospect who is unproven.Houston is the best team in baseball IMO. I think some players will improve from last year (Stanton, Sanchez) and some will regress (Voit, Andujar). It's really hard to peg where Judge will be. Happ is 36 and who knows if he can maintain his form. How can you be sure the Yanks are a 100 win team and won't regress themselves? Baseball is a really long season and so many things can happen (injuries, trades, career years and flops). Here is 538's preseason predictions for last season for the top 8 rated teams. Here's how I feel about this division:
Boston - did squat this offseason, won't be a 109-win team again. They're going to regress.
Toronto - not a threat
Rays - the real threat of the divison
OriLOLs
Yankees should be the #1 in the division this year. But if we get Harper or Machado, I think it's a sure thing to be at the top.

Not often, for sure. Though I believe PECOTA had the Mets winning 80 games last year, so 77-85 was actually pretty close. When has a prediction for the Mets ever been close to coming true?![]()
