Looks like Realmuto is going to Philly.

Solid job by the Marlins. Started with Gary Sanchez or Conforto based packages, and ended up with Sixto Sanchez.

The Mets signed Devin Mesoraco to a minor league deal. This is super shrewd by BVW, given the health of TDA and that Ramos isn't super-durable himself. Mesoraco played good defense for us last year and showed some pop. Very happy that they were able to bring him back for basically nothing.

It's a good return. Realmuto was leaving after next season.
I don't think so. Sixto has wonderful talent but seems more likely to end up in the pen than at the front of a rotation, to me. Alfaro is decent but his offense will be limited as long as he's striking out as often as he does. Stewart, I admittedly know little about, but he seems to profile as a #5 if his stuff is good enough to get out advanced hitters. Given that Miami had reportedly been asking for a legitimate ML-level piece and at least two high-end prospects, this seems really underwhelming. IDK. Seems like Jeter started off overvaluing his guy and ended up with an uninspiring package.

Miami can ask for ML-level piece and 2 high end prospects but they were never going to get that. The only knock on Sixto is injury concerns.

It's a HUGE knock. Has he broken 60 IP in a season? As I said, to me he profiles as a reliever long term.

I understand you ask for more than you think you'll get. But there was clearly big demand for the player from teams not afraid to make moves.

Either Jeter played it well, or he overplayed his hand. Given how it went with Yelich, Ozuna, and Stanton, I don't give him the benefit of the doubt.

For years the Marlins would do this cycle where they trade all their stars before paying them for great young kids.

We’re about to see how that works when you trade for average kids with your stars.

The cycles about to explode.

In 2017 he threw 90-odd between 2 levels.

Watched Sixto dominate High A last season (small sample) as a teenager (just short of his 20th bday).

Jeter butchered that Yelich deal but I can't blame him for Stanton. He inherited debts and had to move Stanton and everyone knew it.

We'll see how it plays out. I'm unimpressed. It wasn't a fleecing but I don't think it was very good.

There's a big difference between purchasing debts and inheriting them.

Saw a Tweet or an article yesterday that Hal said he would still be interested in the high profile free agents until opening day. Cant find it now.

Edit: Found it.

Harper, Machado to Yanks? Hal not ruling it out
I'm sure they'll keep an eye on them, but I would think it behooves every club to indicate they still have interest, if for no other reason than to drive the price up for whoever is actually in it.

If I were the Mets I'd totally go to Boras and start talking about Harper. Discuss parameters. Drive that price up for Philly. Boras already hates the Mets so there's nothing to lose, LOL. The Mets should be in on Machado as it is, but whatever.

4 year/$150 Million deal to Harper with an Opt out after year 2 and 3. And somewhere in there Yanks can explore moving Stanton while eating some salary, but by then youre hoping to have won at least1 world series and more. It gives insurance for when Hicks leaves as well. Frazier/Florial could step into an OF spot, likely CF. We need another Lefty bat.

Hicks CF
Judge RF
Harper LF
Sanchez C
Stanton DH
Andujar 3B
Tulo SS
Torres 2B

DJ (rotating in a lot)
Frazier (rotating in a lot)
Gardner
Romine

I could also see Yanks moving Hicks. His value wont be higher than it is now. It would suck to lose him but he can net a nice return. Maybe a Hicks ++ package for an SP. Cleveland needs an OF.

I think even if we sign a Machado/Harper, we are still behind the Red Sox/Astros in overall quality.

According to Jim Duquette Yankees have offered Machado 7 or 8 years at $220MM. Would be an AAV of either $27.5MM or $31MM.

Not sure if it's in this video but this is what The Score had linked in the article.

Apparently it's in range to what the White Sox and Phillies have offered and there may be another team that has offered more.

Both those teams have lost a pretty decent piece to their teams. The Yankees have added. Then if they add a Machado that's another add.

You can bet that if they did sign him they will make a move for another front line starter.
