I'd be more comfortable doing that if I had actual confidence in Gsellman. Outside of his small sample size debut, he's been really mediocre; xFIPs of 4.79 and 4.22. He still generates ground balls but he doesn't strike out anyone, and I just don't know if he can handle anything approaching high-leverage situations. Truth be told there wasn't a lot in his profile to suggest he'd be a quality ML arm anywhere.

It's why I was hoping the Mets would add another established starter and push Vargas to the pen without worrying about having to move Lugo, who had been really good.

I saw somewhere that the Mets have approached Gio about a 1-year deal.

Man, I would love that. Can eat innings and is still effective. I know his walks jumped and his strikeouts dropped, and he may be running out of gas, but on a one-year deal that's still a risk I'd take. Even if he pitches to his 4.44 xFIP from last year I'd like to have that in the mix with Vargas and Santiago.

See, that's WHY he has to shave it, promoting the Yankees to rethink their position once he's clean. It all fits the storyline.

He goes to the Yankees press conference and is about to sign and then pulls a heel turn and gives Cashman a leg drop through the signing table and the nWo theme comes on and he has a red pWo shirt with the Phillies P for the logo underneath and announces that he’s signing with Philly.

:laugh::cry:

Cole: "Corey, this is revenge for 2009!"

Mejia signs with Red Sox. Is Pete Rose the only person with a lifetime ban that actually is serving a lifetime ban?

I've made my peace with the fact the Yankees will not be signing Harper or Machado.
Which isn't awful, considering that they were able to improve a 100-win roster even without the likes of Machado/Harper.

Boston slept through the entire offseason. The Rays...are worth being concerned about.

A move like this changes the entire dynamic of the pitching staff. Figure you have two guys who you can count on for at least 7 innings per start in de Grom and Gio and it completely changes how you can use the bullpen.

Yup! And while I know the back end of the bullpen should be pretty damn good, I still worry about Gsellman and whichever other guys they try to plug in--Bashlor, Rhame, Peterson, Smith, etc. Like, Diaz-Familia-Lugo-Wilson should be really good. But you need more than four arms in the pen.

Options are key. It's a good idea to bank on one or two bullpen arms having inexplicably terrible seasons.

Yeah, and I still worry about Lugo's arm. He had the UCL tear and I don't think he ever had surgery. He has wonky mechanics and pitches in relief...seems like a matter of time.

The Rays are simply in the running for best mortal in a field with three Super Saiyans.

Yankees improved in the area they really needed to which was pitching

Now, if Boone can just not be dumb with his pitching management...
This is my fear. Still dont trust Boone’e management skills. Hoping...praying he learned a lot in the one year of experience he has now.

I also still despise that Thames is the hitting coach and think its time to move on from Rothschild. But I am sure Yankees brass is worried about switching pitching coaches at this point after CC, Tanaka, Severino have all worked with him for a number of years...would be tough to introduce someone new who may change things when the team is about to make their push

They changed the manager but kept the same staff, so we got the same stupid shit.
