I’ve been led to believe that it’s more about recovery time using steroids.
This is true for some like Boggs or Andersson. It is but it's also strength. As someone mentioned earlier all of a sudden warning track balls are going over the fence.
And it’s not even like there’s much of an idea of where either of them are going. This offseason is ridiculous. Several weeks from spring training and Machado/Harper aren't signed, along with ten's of other FA's.
Unbelievable.
Maybe they think if they do that he'll wear their cap in the Hall.Apparently, the Rangers will retire Adrian Beltre's number

True. He played there more than anywhere else so I could see him going in as a Ranger.Maybe they think if they do that he'll wear their cap in the Hall.
Teams just don't want to commit huge dollars with huge term anymore. Young man's game.
Yeah exactly. HOF player for sure, but I don't particularly associate him strongly with Texas. I mean not more so than Los Angeles. Even Seattle, really. I most remember his monster year in LA, and then Seattle signed him to what I feel like was a really big contract and he was kind of disappointing the next year. That's what I remember, anyway, could be wrong. And then I also remember Andrus always touching his head and the two of then screwing around. I associate him with that stuff, not really the Rangers.True. He played there more than anywhere else so I could see him going in as a Ranger.
That said, do I think of him as an all-time great Texas Ranger? Not really.
First ballot Hall of Famer but I don't think he did enough with any one team to be a number guy.
Absolutely, but they wouldn't be towards the back end of a huge contact. The first sentence is right on. But they’re both 26.
I don't like or want Harper, but I would gladly commit big bucks and term to Machado as a Mets fan. I mean I know it's not my money, but I definitely think he'd be worth it.The first sentence is right on. But they’re both 26.
It's definitely still weird either way.I don't like or want Harper, but I would gladly commit big bucks and term to Machado as a Mets fan. I mean I know it's not my money, but I definitely think he'd be worth it.
Machinehead's overall point, I think, is correct. But Harper and Machado are two of the best free agents ever to become available, given their production and age. It is still pretty amazing to me that they're unsigned. There's some element of collusion at play, I have no doubt.
He only plays outfield and he's primarily a power hitter. And it’s not even like there’s much of an idea of where either of them are going.
Not to be disrespectful but I don’t think the Yankees really need Harper. I think Machado would be better for the yanks at this point. He only plays outfield and he's primarily a power hitter.
He's a good player but he fits the Yankees needs like goaltending fits the Rangers needs.
My not-really conspiracy theory is that Machado wants to be a Yankee and that the Yankees want him too, but they're biding their time in order to make each other look good. That way when Machado ends up coming to New York for 6 years, $180 million or so with an opt out after year 3 and after year 5, the Yankees can say they got their guy all along, and Machado can get his money, just not for the 10 year security that he wants.Maybe it’s just arrogance on my behalf, but my theory is Harper and Machado want to be Yankees. Spring Training is literally in a couple of weeks, these guys need to find homes, living arrangements. It’s been what, 2 months since they’ve been free agents? They know the teams, they know the offers, what’s the hold up? They don’t want to play for those teams.
Absolutely, but they wouldn't be towards the back end of a huge contact.
I'm sure teams would be willing to shell out dollars for 5 or 6 years, but I'm sure they're looking for more than that.
I'd be more comfortable doing that if I had actual confidence in Gsellman. Outside of his small sample size debut, he's been really mediocre; xFIPs of 4.79 and 4.22. He still generates ground balls but he doesn't strike out anyone, and I just don't know if he can handle anything approaching high-leverage situations. Truth be told there wasn't a lot in his profile to suggest he'd be a quality ML arm anywhere. So what about Lugo getting a SP shot in the spring and bumping Vargas to mop up long man work ?
Wilson and Avilan can be the other Lefties w Zamora a call up
Diaz , Familia , Gsellman and a younger RH
