Kluber is more important than Machado. But getting Machado covers what we would need to give up to get Kluber. You cant bank on DJ playing 3B. You cant bank on Tulo staying healthy. Tulo is here on a 1 year deal.
Kluber will be here for what the next 2 years? Does he have 3 left? You have Happ 2-3. Control of Paxton. You are not looking to win just one World Series with Judge, Sanchez, Torres, Severino as young as they are.

This is my second favorite Wilmer Flores memory.
My favorite is when I went to Mets/Yankees game at Citi and somebody wore a Wilmer Flores #69 Yankees jersey.

Machado's agent emphatically denied the reports about the White Sox and Machado. Called out Olney and Nightengale by name, said that their sources were either uninformed or were intentionally misleading the reporters to try to influence the market for Machado. It's one of the most strongly-worded statements I've seen from an agent and definitely one of the longest. Of course the agent wouldn't want everyone to think the market for Machado was shit, but the seriousness of the statement makes me think the numbers that came out about the White Sox offer are probably bullshit or preliminary figures that may have been discussed.

It's funny, because my initial instinct when reading the statement was that while the reported numbers weren't exact, they were probably closer to reality than some of the terms that were thrown around at one point.

To me, it sounds like a desperate agent trying to show there is more interest in a client then there really is.

IDK, could be. But Lozano is a huge agent that has negotiated hundreds of millions in contracts over the years. He's f***ing loaded and probably not personally concerned with missing out on a couple million more bucks, so I don't know that he'd be desperate. He's also never been a Boras-type to leverage the media or use certain tools in the press to work on his behalf. So what you suggest is definitely possible, but I'm actually inclined to believe him.
Heyman seemed to lend credence to it as well.

Still would harm his reputation. 26 year old super star at a premium position cant get an epic contract. I also wouldn't put it past some of these agents to get into a quid pro quo with these media talking heads not in the form of cash but I'll give you the digs before anyone else type thing so they get his message out.

The quid pro quo happens all the time. It's what I was referring to with Boras. To this point, Lozano hasn't been known to be one of them. Of course, that doesn't mean he's not, but he's not usually referenced as an agent who leverages media guys.
As far as his reputation, he was involved in a scandalous report years ago, about how he lied about his background, education, legal history, misrepresented himself to clients, drugs and sex (there were hooker pics). And he never really lost anyone. He bargained Pujols' deal, Votto's deal, and some other big ones. I read a couple years ago he had bargained (and collected commissions on) over $750M in deals, so he's probably close to $1B by now. Piazza, Beltran, Donaldson, and so on. He's Teflon at this point.
