For Olney to be tweeting out these numbers on January 15th, roughly a month before pitchers and catchers report, he had to have heard something from someone he trusted. Whether the numbers were a rough estimate or not for a 7 year deal is another thing, but that AAV is $25 million and I just dont think the numbers are far off from that and the overall sum. Maybe its $28 per year. But i dont see the jump to $250 million

Also gives you 3 outfielders who will make $300 mill+. Stanton. Soon to be Harper. Soon to be Judge. Not the smartest idea.

I'm not disagreeing on the validity of your argument at all, but you and others have brought up $300 mil contract in relation to Stanton in order to support their points and I think it's a little bit disingenuous.

The Stanton $325 mil, 13 year contract has an AAV of $25 mil which for the Yanks luxury tax purposes is actually $22 mil since the Marlins threw in $30 mil in the trade. Machado/Harper are looking for $30+ mil AAV over 10 years taking them to age 36. I don't think those contracts are comparable and to lump them in together as $300 mil+ contracts doesn't put the numbers into the proper context.

One other thing just to point out. Judge doesn't become a free agent until 2023, his age 31 season. That's two years after the current CBA expires (I'm expecting a strike) so who knows what his contract (or health/stats for that matter) will be. As Cano, and lessons learned from ARod have shown, I doubt they sign him through his age 41 season.

MASSIVE

About right for the money i was thinking given what Britton got. Maybe $500k less per year. But again fantastic

EDIT;

And it ends up being the $9 per i thought

Outrageous lol questions is what number does he wear?

Kahnle
Green
Britton
Ottavino
Betances
Chapman

Now get Sign Machado, get Kluber and make CC the long man

We need another front line starter badly. If you can get that and Machado(Who is a nice luxury, not a need),thats a massive offseason.

And whats wrong with doing the latter as well? Not sure if you are in agreement or being snarky about the idea.
No, I'm all for still getting Machado/Kluber/etc.

But it's awesome that Cashman basically immensely improved on last years team without getting those guys.

It's hard to see how they wouldn't be a favorite to win it all. I know Boston is strong but the Yankees will be loaded with quality depth everywhere.

To me, the Yanks, Sox, and Astros are head and shoulders above right now.

Any of them could win.

Picking up that one more starter at the deadline is still on the table.
I dont like this thought process MH.

I dont like waiting until the deadline because the trade market will change then. Kluber could very well be dealt now. And so that leaves what? MadBum as the main and only legitimate target? Maybe Marcus Stroman becomes available? But thats inside the division again. So then you have multiple contenders zeroing in on that 1-2 guys which ultimately means youre gona have to pay a handsome price. That price could be Andujar and that isnt as easy as a hole to fill in midseason. Sure DJ becomes your full time 3B and with Didi back you have Tulo for depth. But for me, you make a deal now and with the plethora of free agents still available you can make a move to replace an Andujar.

I have zero interest in adding a #3-#5 starter at the deadline either. It would have to be an ace to put us over the top.

Get Kluber now and replace Andujar with Machado

The problem I have with this is that Machado is an awfully big commitment to just replace somebody.
