Mets payroll is sitting somewhere in the 140m range now. That includes Wright and Cespedes. Wright settled - whatever the buyout was on his contract today. Cespedes will prob miss the year and his 29m will be 60% covered by insurance. That's probably about 30m off the payroll.

They're not going to sign anyone, and they'll pretend they have a 140m payroll while having a payroll equal to the Twins. Wilpons will get ballwashed by the media, and life goes on.

If we do keep Gray I'd like to see us juggle the rotation so that he gets majority of his starts on the road. His home/road splits are ridiculous.

I wouldn't be shocked if they land Machado, but I would be shocked if they land Machado and he doesn't leave significant money on the table.

The Yankees think their shit don't stink with the team they currently have and don't really see the need for a big splash.

I guess I misunderstood you, but the way it sounded it was almost like 2 separate deals.

I guess it doesn’t matter in the end though. This was earlier on in the day so I wasn’t exactly all there lol.
Totally fair...i meant it as a 3-way but I can see the confusion.

Either way if they can sign Machado, make something work for Kluber. We have pieces. Andujar, Gray, Frazier.

Geez you must be fun at the parties.

We do. I just wish there was more urgency to improve the team.

I think we are just waiting for Machado to make his decision. If we get him you'll see a move for a pitcher. Hopefully Kluber.

Sevy/Paxton/Tanaka is very good 1-2-3. I'd be happy to pay premium for Kluber.

I know a bit has been said on here about 'prospect hogging' but people need to realize it takes 2 teams to strike a deal. I can see lot of teams asking for young roster players for #1 starter. Lot of them would be hellbent on Gleyber.

Well f*** that

Hard to say how a player develops in a different organization or even stays there. Half the first round picks since Judge are no longer with the Yanks.

Cole was taken 1st overall when he went back in. I would agree with what you’re saying under different circumstances, but not with him.

Cole was going to go top half of 1st round out of high school. Two reasons he lasted til end of round 1 was his agent's high $ demands and strong commitment to UCLA. That 08 draft had a strong college crop.

Fair enough but it can happen and probably happens more often with pitchers though I have no data on this. Mark Appel was drafted out of HS, didn't sign and then drafted 1st overall by the Astros and was traded before he ever pitched in the majors.

Appel was drafted 3 times. Out of high school by Tigers but chose to go to college. Top-10 by Pirates but didn't sign. Went back for his senior year and got drafted 1st overall. Appel is a real strange case. I would've bet the house he was going to work out. Now he's out of baseball and about to become 3rd ever #1 pick not to play in MLB.
