Or teams are asking ridiculous returns. If we overpay people would be quick to ***** and moan.
Who knows what the deals are. IMO though, if there's a blockbuster deal out there for you guys only involving prospects, you do it, even if it feels like too much. Pull the trigger, get the guy you want that puts you over the top, then go bring it home.

The Yankees are in a very enviable position of having fantastic ML talent and still a pretty good farm. You can sell some of the farm and then recoup it with guys you choose not to re-sign and instead trade at some point down the road. Like say they don't want to re-sign Didi, or whatever, he can be flipped to help rebuild the farm.

That aside, though... Again. At some point you just gotta go for it, even if it hurts. Unless you think the path to a WS is through free agency and drafting, in which case you can disregard what I said. LOL.

That was my thought as well. Though, I feel like there was about a five-year period where Rey Ordonez was as good as Omar or Ozzie or anyone. He didn't have the longevity, of course. But for that peak...he was something else.

Also, Keith Hernandez, I had the pleasure of seeing the end of his career. He was amazing, as far as 1B go. Great range, and man could he pick them. The Metsies also had John Olerud who was an all-time great with the glove, IMO.

That whole Mets infield of Ventura, Ordonez, Alfonzo, and Olerud grades out by many metrics as being the best-ever defensively.

Ordonez was a wizard but Vizquel had the bat that kept him around, that's where the longevity comes from. Vizquel was just so consistently good.

I loved that Mets infield, even as a Yankee fan. They were the best defensive infield ever.

I want what I want
After not willing to go 6 on Corbin and balking at the asking price for the big names available through trades, this seems like the logical move. Good compromise on the 3rd year. If he earns it, that's a good thing. Still, depending on two guys in their late 30s to anchor the back-end of the rotation is damn risky.

Meh on the Familia move. Unless they’re going to get Miller as well.

I’m fine with it. Add a quality lefty and you probably have the best bullpen in the NL East. Lgugo/Gsellman, Familia, Diaz is pretty damn good. I saw somewhere that Familia’s numbers last year were on par with Robertson’s, who’s likely going to get more than Familia.

I'm good with this move. Fair terms. I always felt like he was better in save situations than non-save situations but a few people told me that wasn't backed up by numbers, the last time I said it.

Also I'm not big on Gsellman as any kind of important bullpen piece. He can't strike anyone out and his numbers overall have not been good for a few years. He's always been a guy with a K/9 in the low-7 range except for those 40 innings when he initially burst onto the scene. Ever since then he's been back to that lower K/9 and he can't get people out with his fastball. xFIP of like 4.2 and 4.7 or so the past two years. I just don't think he's good. Maybe he's your long guy, but I don't want him in high-leverage spots.

Except for the series’ against the Nats, Dodgers and Cubs in 2015.

He had one horrid game. Game 1 vs K.C. it’s impossible to blame him for the other 2 where the defense let him down. I’m not surprised at all about what he did vs the Giants . He has always sucked in tie games and I would have been reluctant to bring him into that game if I was Terry Collins solely based on that history. It sucked tremendously though because you knew with the Giants pen if the Mets made it to the bottom of the 9th they were probably winning that game

Yankees need to come away with Miller and Ottavino today. I would like Britton in there as well but lets see.

Take care of the backend pitching.

Then get Machado/Harper. Add an INF. I prefer Murphy. He can work with either add of Machado/Harper.

I’m surprised at the hype over Gimenez. Doesn’t the guy have like one homerun in hundreds of minor league ABs? I understand shortstop isn’t a power position but if the guy is sinply just very good defensively and is going to OPS 650 then you pretty much have to keep Rosario who has shown he may develop power

Supposedly Omar likes him better than Rosario. Make of that what you will.

I'm not going to predict their careers, but the numbers are actually reversed in the comparison of the two, if we adjust for age and season.

It was Rosario who finished his 19yr old season with 0 homers in 395 ABs. Gimenez just had 6 homers in 445 AB this year (his 19 yr old season).

Rosario didn't show much power in the minors. He's always been bigger, 6'2 185lb for a SS is big, so people have predicted a power jump.
