If you get this version Cano with Seattle eating money and throwing in some other stuff I’d be very intrigued.

Cano can still play. I expect him to suck eventually but if they throw in some cool pieces/eat money/absorb something from us then I can live with that

The risk of this Cano idea going bad BUT getting assets >>> just straight signing our usual garbage like Bruce, Frazier, Vargas etc.

This I agree with. It's all about Seattle eating some salary. The guy can still hit and if he can learn to play 1B and platoon at DH that's a weapon. Talk about someone who would improve. His WAR is still very good

I'll go for Cano if Seattle takes back Bruce AND still eats a bunch of that contract.

Seattle would need to take Bruce, Vargas, pick up the rest of the Bonilla tab, and keep some of the money on Cano's deal before I even give them anything for him.

He's a non-starter for me in any trade.

Cano is still a very good player.

I'm sure he still is. But the thing is, his contract is still 5 years for 120 mil and he's 36. He'll likely decline sooner rather than later.

That's why the Yankees didn't give him that deal in the first place. They were afraid of the last 5 or so years backend of that contract.

Oh absolutely I don't want anything to do with Cano. Just pointing out it's not 'such a Mets thing to do' to go after him as suggested above.

What am I missing with these Robby comments? Cano is owed 120,000,000 over the next 5 years (24M aav) which takes him from age 36 - 40....that's a huge risk. He can still play right now but you'd expect a pretty rapid decline in the near future.

Doubt Seattle will get much of a return anyway given the commitment you would be freeing them from. So you could probably get him cheap but you're talking on a ton of risk and might hamper future moves down the road.

This seems......good?

That's great. I read he oversaw the Sox' drafting. He was Executive of the Year in 2003 and a finalist for the job when Sandy won it. Supposedly pretty sharp. Also like bringing in Riggleman. BVW seems to be on the right track so far. Let's see how he does with the free agent market.

Talk picking up that the Mets and Padres are discussing Syndergaard.

Not sure how I feel about this at all. Don't much about the Padres' farm system.

What you're missing is that any team that trades for Cano will not be taking on anywhere near 100% of his contract.

Seems like transferring risk from financial to organizational. If they keep a significant part of his deal you think they will want high end prospects and players going back no?

Maybe the best in baseball. Although prospects are always never sure things.
