McCann is not close to the best catcher in baseball. He does not measure up to Yadier Molina or Buster Posey in any way shape or form. Mauer's moving to first base, but he also vastly outperformed McCann in years past. Over the last five years McCann has accumulated 12.5 bWAR. Over that same period Mauer accumulated 24.7 bWAR. Hell, Molina (12.6) and Posey (12.6) have more bWAR in their last two seasons than McCann does in his last five.

My bad.....i knew i was overlooking guys. Yadier is my opinion for the best. I would put McCann as third, with Mauer at first.

Still comparable to an elite goalie in hockey sense i guess. And no need to freak out man, people make mistakes, I don't know everything about every sport.

It's hard to imagine we lose our impact bat, but can still be a much improved team on paper compared to last season, but if we somehow land an impact pitcher (tanaka? maybe).. we would be

As @dgoold notes, apparently whenever you lose a guy to a 10-yr, $240M contract, the first thing you do is sign Carlos Beltran #pujols #cano

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Yea, McCan is def top 5 in my opinion. I don't really consider Mauer a catcher anymore since he's moving to 1B, but Molina and Posey are both better players. That's not a knock on McCan though. I've always been a big fan of his. He's very good, and is tough as nails. I think he'll be great for the lockeroom.

now it is possible that Mccann playing in YS could make him a better player with the short porch.

YS is much shorter to right field than Turner in certain areas and only deeper in a direct center (not that Turner is much shorter there). McCann will definitely benefit from this since he pulled all but 4 of his HRs last season. I'd expect at least 25 homeruns and wouldn't be surprised to see as many as 35.

Losing Cano hurts a lot. He was my favorite player besides Jeter so it sucks to see him go. But with the other moves we made so far, I feel we are a better team with the McCann/Ellsbury/Beltran signings and really looking forward to this season!

Our offense is looking scary again, I'm so glad we actually have a catcher that can hit (providing he stays healthy).
Also, Who will play CF? I'd assume Ellsbury right?

Mets apparently targeting Price?

That'd be an amazing move, albeit possibly the most surprising move of the offseason. No one would expect that from them.

they should, they have the young pitching to do so.. but would they sign him LT? I feel for the mets fans sometimes, they are in the biggest market in the world and act like a small market team

You feel correctly. That's why we want new owners. At this point, the Mets ownership doesn't have fans that want to watch games anymore. They haven't even been attempting to try.

No reason to keep the team.

so apparently Yankees are still in discussions with Choo believe it or not.. is Cashman's plan to corner the FA OF market then hold his own personal free agency?

Beltran will likely predominantly be used as a DH.

Right now the OF is Soriano, Gardner, and Ellsbury.

Choo moves Soriano to the bench. The Yankees cut Wells. Have Ichiro and Soriano on the bench.

They could also look to move Gardner for SP since they likely won't be bidding for Tanaka anymore.

Your OF will either be:

Choo-Gardner-Ellsbury
or
Choo-Ellsbury-Ichiro

with Beltran as DH and occasional OF reps.

Getting choo only means Gardner will be traded for a 3b or 3-4 starter and one of choo or Beltran will play out of position.

I see a heavy rotation of DH between Soriano, Beltran, jester, texeira and mcann.

They need pitching. Unless the feel Phelps and Pineda are ready.

Yanks signing Beltran just further proves the point that Cashman is trying to assemble the greatest team of all time... in MVP 2005.

I made this during the season last year:

That team railed. It was missing Granderson though, who is also in MVP 05.

EDIT - Also fully aware that Posada was not a Yankee last season. Nitpickers :p:

You know who is in MVP 05 though? Brian McCann.

Yankees need pitchers. I get the feel that they are just going to try and outpower the ither teams, again. Need some good pitchers.

they dont like any of the top market pitchers, cant blame them really. if Tanaka is posted, that will change

I know many people used Cano'a laziness and sometimes careferee attitude against him, (even the Yankees), For this hypothetical discussion, What do you think if you had Robinson Cano the talent, and he played the game and was marketable like Derek Jeter. What do you think happens?

Do the Yankees bite the bullet and pay him the 9 year or 10 year deal as the face of the franchise knowing full well what happened with Arod? or do you think after the Arod deal pretty much blew up in their face they still wouldn't have went near that number?

I think this could make for some interesting discussion since it appears almost all Yankee fans loved his talent but questioned his committment to the game the way its supposed to be played and lack of leadership.

What do you think the Yankees would have done if Cano had Jeter's marketability to go along with Cano's talent?

For 240 million, I think you absolutely need leadership out of that player.

The reason Arod was such a terrible contract was because his lack of responsibility as a person. Usually responsibility and leadership come together. Without one, you usually don't have the other. Arod wasn't a leader. He wasn't responsible. Not for his team mates. Not for his actions.

Yankees did well by not caving. If Cano approached every day the way Jeter does its a different story. Mentality is a big part of any sport. Cano's was ****.

so u think they would have done it?

i dont know a whole lot about baseball but seeing these signings by the yankees im curious to know just how good these players are that they are signing could anyone make an approximate mlb to NHL player comparison for all these guys showing the significance of these signings?

Let's just say if Hank played baseball he'd get what Cano, Pujols and Aroid got.
