Tavares wont be taking less than 6-7 and could come in around 8M

Stamkos, Kopitar, Giroux, Malkin, Backstrom etc

Look at what all those guys got or will get for their final deals then factor Tavares age and rising cap

I disagree. I won't argue he could ask for that, but that is not how JT is. He will be like Spezza and Gio and take a 3-4 year term deal for 4-5 million IMO

I’m unable to start threads, but I was curious what people think Marner’s value would be to Dubas and the Penguins

I think the leafs would have a decent chance of convincing him to waive his NMC to go play for Dubas again, and get him on a line with Crosby or Malkin, etc

Wonder if playing too many minutes has led to him playing slower, or maybe he is hurt.

Either way, has been truly underwhelming this year. As aforementioned, cannot elevate in the playoffs when it is tighter, he does not have the size of 34 or the skating of 88.

If he wants any kind of raise, trade him.

A combination of Guentzel and Rackell would work for me.

Guentzel has to be re-signed, but it won't be for double digits.

For me, Willie @ 11.25m writes off next year. I'd be more than happy to retain, for draft pick(s) and prospect(s) and a bad contract back to make the money work. Then on July 1st, I'd go hard after Rantanen and use JT's money to go after Ekblad and Hedman. JT can return if he agrees to number that works for the team after we get our shopping done.

At this point signing Marner would be a mistake unless he takes less than Nylander.

Nylander is the more dangerous player and actually has the threat of shooting.

If Marner comes out with his ask for over 11.5M as everyone's expecting the Leafs have to seriously consider walking way.

If we could somehow walk away from Marner and pick up Rantanen if he makes it to UFA, our core 3 will be severely upgraded. Let Marner beg for 13M in FA.

Marner has no threat of shooting so teams just double team Matthews in the playoffs to neutralize him. That problem is solved if we can replace Marner with the better UFA's that summer - who I bet won't get paid what Marner is going to ask.

Hopefully he is signed at the earliest possible date so we can skip all the negotiating drama and get straight to complaining about it.

If he signs for 9.5M x 8 like McAvoy, no one will complain.

I see pigs flying before Mitchie takes a discount, and why should he, Leafs always overpay it's the one thing they're consistent at............
He grew up here, his wife is from here, their parents are here, he’s a lifelong fan. If he wants to ignore all that and try and get more somewhere else, see ya. Nobody is giving Marner more than he got here. May not even match what he is currently getting unless he has a huge contract year, ala William.

100% he's digging in at a number not a penny less than Nylander. I'd give him a take it or leave it offer and if he leaves it, so be it. You cannot let him pull the same stunt that Willie did if you are tired of the negotiations with the three amigos as some of the fans are.

Would love to see them try to run it back next season of they lose in round #1.

It's funny, Marner is having a bad year and Nylander is having a career year yet Marner has 3 less goals and 8 less points while being the better all around player.
Mitch hasn't been the better player when Willie has been engaged this year. Willie has 5 SHP to Marner's 2. If he had not signed, Willie would have another 10-15 points. Mitch is not even on a 100 point pace. If he does not help get us to round 3 this year, not much more we need to see.

Styles definitely took his foot off the gas th moment he signed his deal, which is exactly what some of us said would happen..........

He took his foot off the gas quite a while before the contract . He was still getting points but the play had already been dying off .

Perhaps it explains why he has points in only 2 of 9 games since signing. Dragging JT and Bert for almost half a season took it's toll on Willie.
It’s not helping that’s for sure, how many grade A chances have Tavares and Bert not converted. We all know Willy was at most worth $10/year, but this organization is just clueless. My guess is Marner gets $12.5…barf city

Surprisingly Nylander has 261 assists on Mathews goals, while Marner who constantly plays with Mathews has 371. I think if their roles were reversed and Nylander was constantly with Mathews his points total would also be similar if not more than Marner’s

Here is some interesting breakdowns from last summer

https://thehockeywriters.com/maple-leafs-breaking-down-auston-matthews-299-career-goals/#:~:text=Of%20course%2C%20Mitch%20Marner%20leads,the%20span%20of%20Matthews'%20career%3F

Of course, Mitch Marner leads the way with 99 assists on Matthews' goals, while William Nylander isn't far behind with 72. The two are also separated by just two primary assists with Marner leading the way again with 54. Can you name the other 42 players to have recorded assists over the span of Matthews' career?Aug 24, 2023

How exactly is it funny that a guy making $10.9 million has 8 points less than a guy making $6.9 million at the half way point of the season? Over 82, that gap is pro rated to increase to 106 vs 92 points.

I would disagree with that. Nylander seemed to have a very hard time compiling high volume points early in his career relative to Marner even on nights when he looked more involved in the offense. Marner has always been more efficient in that department.
