He does seem to play amazing after losing some teeth or taking an errant puck to the face… not hoping anyone gets hurt, however, we know there’s a gear to Mitch that plays with grit.

He will catch up and get ahead of Nylander when the season is done. My fav is still Nylander. Just think he is more proffesional overall (not better overall, but better at taking heat and u need that in Toronto)

This is going to happen, the top boys will get on a hot streak and as long as Jones hold up and play like a solid starter, they will win more than lose. We all cheer and some will come up and say MM is the best and on par with all the Greats.
Then comes the ASB and they will once again go cold for a week. Then they-mainly AM and MM will light it up until till a week before the playoffs. While we all collectively think, this is it, they figure it out. When playoffs come, it will be the same story, as we will get out goalie and the cycle of they(AM, JT, MM and even Willie) created enough but it were the others not finishing, or if only the supporting class score more(which they probably do), or if the opposing goalie don’t become Roy 2.0, or the refs, or Keefe for over playing them, or fans….or Bieber in the building like how Chiefs fans say about Swift.
Then we hope changes will finally happen in the summer and it would just be the usual moving parts-bottom 6. But this summer, our hope will be Knies, Robbie, Minten, Lilly and Woll taking the next step and once again the cycle continues.

All the while, when are AM, MM, JT and to some extent Willie going to take the next step like Reilly did in the last playoffs.

If Keefe wants to hold the players accountable he should have chosen a better example than Kampf.

Marner should have been made to sit for at least a third period by now. He's supposed to be a leader on this team. Yet doesn't take responsibility for their failures like a real leader would.

Instead he's stuck in his own little world where he is King Hockey.

Scapegoating is a sign of poor leadership. Marner has proven himself ill equipped to be wearing that A. Too many "me first" tendencies for a character player.

Uninspired hockey, turning the puck over, and lackadaisical board battles leaves room for #16 to up his game.

He's certainly talented enough to become what his salary suggests he should be. But that responsibility has to fall on him. Accountability doesn't start at the top.

Accountability starts in the mirror.

Reading some of these posts is kind of surprising. I'm a fan of Marner's still and think he will have a big second half of the season for us. He is a bit moody but I like his game.

I think he just wears the pressure different. He’s from here, all he’s dreamed about is playing for the Leafs. I think he wants to win bad here. But sometimes it causes him to make mistakes. Still a good player though, probably puts way too much pressure on himself to be the guy who leads us to glory.

Mitch has been real good or real bad all season. Last 5 games pretty much sums up his season.

Explain how a super elite PK player improved on PK to be league average ...

Marners' PR agency deserves half of his salary

We know players go through ups and downs, he’s struggling right now. He’s a good player will turn it around. Matthews went through something similar last year.

Hard to put down 99 points, obvious skills BUT it appears to my eye that he is the most alouf, unlikable guys to his team mates. Small in stature, often vulnerable because of his style of play, frequently targeted, rarely hit because of his skills, BUT, not once can I recall a fellow teammate coming to his aid, to his defence, to seek retribution, not once.

Lol I love how people are fans of the team but know nothing about the players. If you listen to any podcasts, interviews or watch the pre-season TSN hits on YouTube you’d immediately understand this is a horrible and wrong take. Marner is 100% the glue guy in the room for the Leafs. He gets along with everyone. Again I don't know why we allow posts like this when we have anecdotal evidence that proves otherwise. Many current players and former players have gone on record about how much they love having him as a teammate. Look at how many current and former Leafs were at his wedding. The fans don't really like him which is fair and their right, but that sentiment is not shared in the locker room. People just need to accept that.

Didn't Domi just go on record last week saying how much he loved playing with Mitch and it brough him back to the London days?

The leafs in general don't come to anyone's aid lol. It's only the newer leafs that are bringing that attitude. Knies and Domi really.

We’re at the stage he’s what 27 years old. His game should be maturing. Unfortunately for him if you watch him as an 18 year old in Lond and now it’s the same. His play on the Carolina goal sums it up. Not the empty netter. He took time to shrug his shoulders sulk and put his head down and in that play Jarvis and the Canes gain enough to turn and burn. There’s been a lot of poor lazy back checks the last month or so and watch his behaviour after. It’s time he acts like a professional. Simple plays, cut down the high risk plays, get to the middle of the ice, when the puck heads down on the PK get off the ice don’t hang out there and get stuck. There’s more he can do.

There are always newer Leafs, every year, and no one comes to his aid. The list of players brought into change this culture is very long, yet all have changed character after being here a while, O Reilly, Schenn, Reaves,, Bert, on and on.I see no evidence in what you say about being liked. Of course Domi would mention London, they won, he was relevant.

The room is a mess, for many years now, the consistency is at the first line guys, and Mitchy is at the forefront.

This team rarely sticks up for any player, not just mitch . All starts from keefe imo .

maybe I have amnesia or something, but when is the last time Marner has gotten buried to the extent where players need to come running to his defense? Marner doesn't really get hit like that and he doesn't normally engage in that kind of activity, so I'm not sure what you're referencing.

go listen to podcasts, people have mentioned it a lot. and also in the TSN videos they release prior to the start of every year, it's mentioned in that as well. You can also go look at his instagram and look at how many former and current leafs were there. Bozak, Kadri, Thornton, Matthews, Rielly, Andersen, Bunting, Kerfoot, the list goes on. Even in those pre-season videos Sammy talked about Marner a lot!

Marner didn't do himself any favours with the fans in his last contract negotiation and he can only blame himself for the public perception of him. I do think there is a lack of accountability when it comes to him. If he makes a bad play he should be benched for a shift or a period. But it is very evident he is a pretty well liked guy in the room. Like i said before he's kind of the guy who brings everyone together, he gets along with everyone and the players talk in that video about he's the guy who tries to organize things for all the guys to do together.

The one thing I will agree with you on is, it does seem like the top guys run the room and the coach and that has to change.

This is what I see as a big part of the problem.

Marner is too big of an influence in the room and with the team. He is the most immature player on an immature team. He’s a vet now, he should be pushing for a cup and wins, but he still has an 18yo attitude

This is where I agree too. He is very influential. All in all the team needs a culture reset. Which is why I was on board with trading Marner before his NMC kicked in. I believed we needed to fire Keefe and trade Marner for a defenseman.

Now we have limited options. Marner has an NMC, so I think you need to call Ferris and ask him to start negotiating with other teams.

You also need to fire Keefe’s dumbass. The lack of accountability for the top players is so detrimental to our overall success

I’d include McCabe and Benoit in there too
Agreed on all the Marner stuff

Agreed. This is what really needs to change, unfortunately it doesn't feel like change is on the way anytime soon unless Keefe is replaced. I'm almost at the point where I hope they lose, and lose bad like I was in the last days of Babcock so that he gets fired.

I agree Mitch does seem to be well liked but it's not helping the team win so I don't really care either. Maybe everyone should be a little bit less happy until they win something and give the fans something to be happy about.

Hoping for a new coach ASAP, someone who can take charge. Coaches don't have the power they used to have but still, I'm sure it's possible to be more of an authority than Keefe has been and IMO we need that really badly. I'm reminded of what MTL players said about Scotty Bowman - "we hated him 364 days a year, then on the 365th day we skated around the ice with the Stanley Cup". Keefe's a cupcake, saying something critical about the players and then feeling the need to roll back his comments the next day says it all to me and I can't wait for the Keefe era to be over.

I couldn’t agree more

The time for this was after the Montreal series, imo

Now it’s tougher

No one should use Jfresh for anything. Players go from hero to zero in their metrics so much it is meaningless. The Leafs are worse overall this year for defense and goaltending and in a non-Mitch Marner thread everyone realizes that.
