Another 3 assists so far from that piece of shit playoff under performer.
Yup three apples, let's break them down:
Point 1) Pp secondary assist: one point for being on a lethal pp (he doesn't even touch the puck in the highlights)
Point 2) 2man advantage primary assist: wow... A primary assist on a 2man pp!!
Point 3) 4vs4 primary assist: Takes an incredibly wide shot that inadvertently hits someone and goes in lol.

Another Marner special...full talent on display!

between Nylander, Marner and Tavares, Marner is the only one whose cf% drops below 50% without Matthews.
That has more to do with what those minutes are, for the record. Over the past 3 years, both Marner and Nylander are above 50% xGF% with Matthews or Tavares and below 50% without them. However, Marner gets very heavy defensive usage in those minutes without them, so being below 50% isn't exactly abnormal. It seems to represent a lot of him being thrown out to help cover for difficult defensive situations.
Didn't ya know, they got goalied!??!! 7 times to be exact
3 times out of 8 to be exact actually, by goalies that did the exact same or worse to other teams. And even with some other pretty significant obstacles added to the mix in those series, we were still a bounce away from winning 2 of the 3.

hes been lights out lets not kid ourselves hes rounding into form at a great time full marks for the kid

The funny thing here is watching people attempt to use statistics with a clear lack of aptitude proven time and time again.
Dunning Kruger effect is alive and well. Keep it up.
You are the best salespeople for guys like Marner with your inept attempts to smear.
If it wasn't so funny, it would be sad that you aren't aware how embarrassed you should be.

The 4th goal, Matthews second was pretty incredible, He's playing really well now.

Impossible task for some.

Marner has been on a bit of a heater lately.
Currently riding a 7 game point streak for 14 points.

Make that 8 game, 17 points.
Most impressive right now is his forecheck. Always been a strength but it's been crazy good the last few weeks.

After a slow 2 months for his standards, he's back to form. No reason he can't play like this in the playoffs, but he doesn't. He's the biggest ex factor if we want to do anything in the post season.

I thought he was really uninspiring the first half of the season, but he's been much more like himself (read: elite talent) lately. The calmness in his game is back and he's dissecting defenses again. This insane PP heater is more his handiwork than anything else. He's playing high effort hockey and rather than running around like a waterbug, he's engaging and winning battles along the boards.

Of course, the big question will be his playoff performance. When we hit elimination games, can he keep that calmness? Or will the Ghost of Gilmour whisper in his ear and cause him to flip pucks over the glass and cry in the penalty box? If he can play like Sophomore Marner who was diving in front of Chara clappers and scoring 9p in 7 games (4p in games 5-7!) then we're in business.

Definitely looking more engaged this last stretch of games. Needs to shoot more though, I get he’s trying to set up Matthews, but needs to be more selfish at times.

It must drive you haters nuts knowing that Marner's going to get paid somewhere around $12.5M x 8 and you're going to have to suffer at least another 9 more years watching the second greatest Leaf in the modern era reach the Hall of Fame. You'd probably be better off not even being a Leafs fan for the next decade or so.

If he’s not winning a Cup or any awards I doubt he’s going to the HOF. Same goes for Tavares he’s not going either at this stage.

Do you realize that you just admitted that you don't expect the Leafs to win the cup in the next decade or so? It must be horrible to have such a negative and depressing outlook. Why even be a fan?

Who is and isn't a fan is always up for debate on this board.

Every contract Dubas signed was excellent. Team construction excellent. Coaching excellent. All that perfection just destroyed by a lot of terrible luck.....
The terrible luck was actually Covid and a three year flat cap especially when it was previously predicted in January of 2020 to rise by 5% every year.. Every UFA that signed during the flat cap was forced to take a discount.

Who would've thought the economy would affect salaries...

Those UFAs include the ones Toronto signed too, right? Our post-flat-cap contracts would have been suppressed just like everyone else's.

This upcoming playoffs will be huge for both him and Tavares if they're looking for early extensions

We signed our big three prior to the flat cap.

Or do you mean the other guys that came in? If so, it was always an exchange of players, one contract comes off, one ufa comes in for the same amount.

I’m talking about everyone we signed after the flat cap. It wasn’t just the non-Leafs who had their contracts suppressed.

Brodie, Kampf, Campbell, Jarnkrok, Simmonds, Bunting, etc. all those guys get more than they did if the cap raised.
