That list is bogus

Who cares, they are going to give you some Spin-O-Rama passes, Rocket caliber goal scoring and some seriously speedy wheels for some years to come. No point in worrying about a Cup, they're here to entertain us. The bonus is there is obviously a "chance" if we make the PO.

Embrace your Leafs for what they are, not what you want them to be. You won't ever find me on the main boards taunting teams about how we are contenders or are going to win it all etc.

We just paid 11.5 to a winger who has ever recorded one 80 point season but had a great start to this one. It still
Remains to be seen if he can hit 90 this year. I’m still waiting for his annual disappearing to materialize.
Now we don’t want to play a player 12.5(some posters numbers) who has consistently had over 90-100 point season while being twice as good defensively as the guy we just paid 11.5
I hope marner does the same as the other players who have been run out of town and goes somewhere else and wins a cup so he can bring it back to Toronto

I doubt he is strong enough to be effective in the face off
As the second man in (after the C has been chased) you have to be more careful so as not to be penalized.

Having said that, and knowing it applies to both, Willy has a 36.6% and Mitch has a 20.0% success rate this year.

Career-wise, Mitch is 45.6% on 206 draws, and Willy is 50.4% on 1,831 draws.

(I didn't think Willy had taken that many - since he joined the team, only Matty, JT, Naz, Bozak, and Kampf have taken more as a Leaf.)

Run out of town.
So the fans influence the gm.
That is sad.
The gm should be able to have the guts to make trades without fear of public opinion.

You really have to fact check.

Willy has two 80 point seasons, not one. Mitch has never had a 100 point season.

As for consistency, Willy has two consecutive (and counting) 80+ point seasons, and Mitch has two consecutive (and counting) 90+ point seasons . Willy improvements over the last couple of years are greater, especially when you consider how Matty is improving while JT is declining (which also helps to explain the defensive discrepancy).

Of course it is. This place has it dialed in. Bet they didn't even factor in his dad.
If I am correct, since your post of the list, there was only one post regarding Marner and it was a response to you asking, "So if he is the 24th best, why are we paying him like he is top 5?".

I respect your posting so I ask you a serious question
That list is rife with players listed above marner who imho aren’t as good.

Serious question
Panarin is listed above marner on that list
Do you believe panarin is better than Mitch

It’s not that I wouldn’t want to renew Mitch but as has been pointed out we already committed to Nylander for 8 years. There is no need for another high end right winger now. We have other positions to fill. If there was no cap, absolutely extend him.

He won’t take a number that allows this team to compete for the Stanley Cup. The team > any player, so he's gotta go.

That decision was made when they committed to Nylander.

I don't think Nylanders deal has much bearing on Marner in that respect. Marner's rfa deal, like Matthews is closer in line to the market rate for top players as opposed to Nylander whose rfa deal was clearly below the market value of a star winger in '24.

Marner will be heading into a contract negotiation where the team already has a 1RW locked in long term. That said, he and team likely will both want a deal locked up so ideally negotiations don't get too contentious

Yes but its a case of please waive for us. Then he says only if its LA or NY etc. They offer us trash. Nylander comes with term and NMC is not enforced yet.

Nylander received a retroactive nmc with his new deal.

I don’t know what that means but I don’t have point ahead of him that’s for damn sure

Sitting beside number one center no do it with Tavares now……..oh wait they tried that they couldn’t even score so you can look at his stats with him riding Matthews coat tails and think it’s him all you want he’s very good at finding matthews I will admit it’s a skill 🤣

Just because people don’t want to pay Marner 12.5, doesn’t somehow mean they support the 11.5 Nylander got. I thought that was an overpay as well.

I also think Mitch is a terrific player, I just think something has to give for this team to hit the next level.

It may not, but it really should. If we're truly serious about winning, it will....

I'm sure he will be signed, and I'm also sure that will seal this team's fate as a non-winner.

So far this season he is, yes.
Panarin is and always has been better than Mitch Marner. At 32, Panarin has 20 points more than his next best teammate and 10 points more than 26 year Marner. Panarin had 95 points in 69 games in 2020 (again 20 points more than next best teammate). In 2018 he had 82 points and nearly 40 points more than his next best teammate! Marner struggles to produce with anyone not named Matthews. Wait till Marner is 32 lol, he already struggles to stay on his feet and keep up with the play.

Since being put on Mackinnons line, $800,000 small winger Drouin is pacing similar stats as Marner. Just saying. If your making 11 million per year and on a line with Matthews... You should be pacing 130 point territory...not struggling to hit 100.

Good points but marners a better hoccey player let’s not kid ourselves I love Panarin but marners 200 ft game shouldn’t be ignored to focus on points alone I disagree that Panarin is a better player

He's great on the PK. One of the few bright sides there.

Who was the last Leaf even nominated for a Selke? I bet you just fluffed that off last year too.

People like you deserve a team of John Mitchell's. It's just a joke how you go out of your way to slag him. He had a slow start, he's been fairly consistent the last 20, very good in our end, limiting turnovers, getting Matthews his looks and playing hard minutes. Again, hockey people see it, I'll take that over some rant here. Enjoy the all-star game.
Fairly consistent at changing during a 2-0 going the other way when he was the last man back

At 11 mill I’d argue that as a rental he’s not going to be worth much. Hell likely look to increase on his already high salary, so likely won’t sign an extension until he’s a FA and he can truly analyze all offers. I doubt any team would give up good value and offer him 12.5+ long term. He’s also got a NTC so if he prefers to not temporarily relocate next year he could just stay here.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve seen very few cases were players get the kind of salaries Toronto give out.
Without a doubt Dubas made a massive mistake in giving Marner and Matthews such huge contracts out of entry level, and I’m not sure how to rectify that now. but the question I have for those who want Marner traded is how do you think Matthews would react to losing the guy that’s been serving him goals on a platter for so long. He’d be pissed and how ready would everyone be to have Matthews go from 60-plus goals a season to much fewer?
