I don’t understand how he keeps doing this and refuses to learn every time it backfires, he’s not a rookie with hurt feelings and no media training.
He is a bleeding heart, the defender of the weak (not physically). Typically he blames media, although ,out fans like me had no use to play this game with Sam. Let's ask Mitchy after Sam dies under playoff pressure.
The NHL is a winner take all not an Oakville soccer moms league that doesn't keep score.
I wish the best for Sam, but this team went way too far with his rehab.
He has fought his way back, but will he collapse again?
Mitchy needs to look at his own shyness on the ice in the playoffs. We don't want him to fight or throw deadly checks every shift...just drive the offense forward, use his superior skill without fear.

Stanley Cup type atmosphere, Matthews line absolutely dominant. Marner line not very good. According to naturalstattrick.com

Had some nice setups for his line mates to bad they couldn’t finish
Yeah. I hope they find a bit more chemistry though. There was some presence but its like McMann has a bunch of bottled energy that is being wasted while he is figuring out what to do with a passer of that caliber. Tavares also seems oblivious of where other players are until Matthews is on the ice in the PP. So it amounts to Tavares waiting for a pass (not passing) while McMann is looking where to chase instead of putting himself into a position to receive a pass. Highly predictable.
Hopefully Mitch can conduct this line a bit more effectively with some ice time. JT aint running this thing.

Keefe post game said he was glad it was Marner there in OT with the two many men scenario , his "processor" works faster.

Tidy return, smart hockey.
made a great play on the OT goal, perfect PK.
Admittedly, I didn't watch the play and the highlights don't seem to catch this Marner play. What does he do thats so incredible on the OT goal?

I just watched the OT play highlights and was blown away with Matthew's. He wins the puck race to a loose puck in the penguins zone, wins not one but two board battles vs two penguins and then literally does a ONE ARM SAUCER PASS over a 3rd defenders stick to Marner, whose at the blueline. AND he wasn't done yet... Matthews immediately skates to the same side of the ice as Marner and gives Marner and easy pass to him, in which Matthews THEN threads the needle to McCabe for the goal.

Just incredible work by Matthews on that OT goal that should not be overlooked. Without him, that play dies within first few seconds of the highlight. And he made it look easy too.

He didn’t touch the puck in the ozone when we had 4 guys out there because of a late change

It was a smart play, but not one I would be focusing on. That Matthews sequence was really good as you mentioned.

Hopefully Marner-JT can work, because that middle six can become our downfall if it doesn’t start clicking

A secondary assist

Perhaps we could change the thread title now that he's thankfully back?
Or even better, just lock this mess up.

Marner is just saving himself for the playoffs
That would be awesome. I'm sure we would all love to see Marner just crush it in the playoffs, and not just for the first 4 games either. Something along the lines of 22 games played and 27points, now that would be sweeeeeeeeeeet!!

Are you looking to start an appreciation thread or are you hoping to ban Marner discussion altogether? Neither is an intelligent idea IMO but perhaps you could clarify what it is you're aiming for here?

I mean marner and matthews should be dominating games

Great play by matthews and smart reaction of marner, to wait bertuzzi come back on bench to touch the puck and keep it on offensive zone.

-if he touch it immediatly, its a penalty
-if hes only came back to the bench, the puck move out of offensive zone

so he had been smart to understand thr situation and wait the last second to give the chance to matthews to make a play.

I notice that too. The mix is there and I think MM will figure out how to play with McMann and JT, just need more time.
JT just need to understand that he cant drive a line anymore.

It is a smart play... that 12 and 13 year old AAA players will generally make.

Anyone who knows the rules for too many men wouldn't touch that puck.

over 95% of player will touch it or just returning to the bench without considerating anything else...
