Tomato sauce $1, Cheese $1.
If you try to make a pizza, but you only have 10 bucks, spending $8 for the best dough isn't a winning strategy. The result is a cheese pizza.

buy the $5 dough, and you have $1 for pepperoni, $1 for ham, $1 for bacon.
= Canadian Pizza.
You could have just said ‘no, I can’t expand on that’ instead of whatever that was.

I’ll wait until available

I trade MM for a #1D
So trading him implies the leafs have trade rights which they don't. I'm sure you know this so why don't YOU trade him right now if you know how to pull this off. You certainly think you have a way around this.

I’m sure the new GM has watched his performances, and now he gets a first hand look and an inside view.
Marner gets another chance and one would assume that if he fails in the biggest games for the same reasons as past years, then they’d have some decisions to make.
I'm sure the new GM has watched his performances, and now he gets a first hand look and an inside view at how wrong people on this site are about him. The only decision to make, after Marner is once again one of our best playoff performers, is the cap hit and term to sign him for, but that would already be largely established by his already existing sample.

I’m definitely a proponent of keeping Marner around, but I see lots of people say “he’s one of our best playoff performers” like it’s a compliment.

Anything less than second best on our team in the playoffs is a massive disappointment, and even then, second best on a team full of underperforms means very little. He hasn’t been good enough, nor has most of the team.

There’s so many around I can’t recall the last time the Leafs had one.
The key is to draft and develop them yourself like how most other teams acquire them. :)

That starts first with protecting your high draft picks and second strong internal scouting ability, followed by drafting and developing.

In terms of Marner discussion today, that decision could have be made at his draft time where 3 Dman .. Noah Hanifin, Ivan Provorov and Zach Werenski where all top 10 ranked.

The Leafs even had a predraft offer on the table with CBJ to move back from #4 (Marner) so they could draft Hanifin, and Leafs move back to #8 to draft Werenski and obtain multiple 2nds in the deal. Columbus eventually passed on the offer as the draft unfolded, believing the Leafs ask was too high,

As much as Dale Hunter was prepared to draft Marner as chief scout, then interim GM Kyle Dubas was prepared to pass on him and move back in the draft.

That said every single entry draft season is an opportunity to address this need.

We got the best player, none of those guys I'd trade straight up for.

Being a sports fan is genuinely so interesting. I feel the opposite. It's like we're seeing completely different games the past several playoffs.

Since Marner has a full NMC contract trading him possibility is slim to none even if there was a trade available.

However Marner is a UFA come July 1st 2025 as is say Victor Hedman at the same time.

Cap space and positional reallocation is available by more means then just a trade.

35 year old Hedman in 2025, not sure it's that attractive.

Leafs 3 X $11 mil players combined for a single goal in an embarrassing near sweep against Florida in round #2.

Marner individual contribution. I can't remember very many Leaf fans going away happy with his performance last year nor the end result.

Lets hope history does not repeat itself if this is a rematch against Florida in round #1.

Leafs will need much more than that to advance.

People with NTC/NMC get traded all the time. I’m all for keeping Marner. He is an elite talent. Better than Willy. Worse than Matty

I think for him he needs to get out of here. It’s not healthy. every comment is about the media. He has issues. They may be what make him great. But he and his dad think the world is out to get him

If he doesn’t sign it will be a shitshow in the media. He won’t be able to handle it. If he wants to stay. Great. But I think there is a very real world that he may want to go.

I don’t blame him. I wouldn’t want to deal with the media here. I would go somewhere low key too

Whoa whoa. Are you calling for allowing a Mitch Marner type player to walk for nothing?
You are gambling that Hedman will even talk to you when you are allowed to which means you lost Marner already. That ain't positional reallocation. That is just a turd

A trade is his to request. Any mention of a "I'd trade him" sure doesn't sound like that kind of request.

Sign him. Without a no trade clause

No kidding lol let one of the best wingers in the game walk to sign a near retirement player. No thanks. They need to move past that mentality.

Sign him. Without a no trade clause
They hand them out like candy on Halloween. Even David Kampf got a limited nmc I think so I’m not sure I’d be getting my hopes up on Marner getting anything less than what nylander got.

Where’s Matthews stats? Didn’t he have a goose egg that series
