One of the most valuable sports franchises, and one with one of the longest failure streaks in existence.
How do you solve such a problem? All that money and all that failure. What to do?
--First, hire someone with zero experience at the NHL executive level: Shanahan
--He in turn hires someone with zero NHL GM experience: Dubas
--Of course, he then hires someone with zero NHL coaching experience: Keefe
--Who does Keefe bring in to fix the horrific power play ? You got it, someone with zero previous NHL experience: Carbery (No doubt after consultation with Dubas or maybe at the suggestion of Dubas. Does Carberry have a Soo connection?)
I noticed that Marner is apparently going to have another different power play role in the game tonight in Chicago.
Why might that be?
Well, you see, the last time Marner scored on the power play in the regular season was on February 7th, 2020 in the Covid bubble season.
Following that game, there were 18 further regular season games. Marner scored no power play goals in those games.
He also scored zero power play goals in the 56 regular season games last season.
And, of course, zero power play goals in the 7 games thus far this season. Add them up and it comes to 81 games.
Yes, with yet another shake-up on the power play,
they're trying to spare poor Marner the shame of going a full 82 regular season games without a power play goal.
It's stubbornness taken to incomprehensible levels. Maybe take Marner off the first power play unit instead?
