Discount? I'm just looking for fair market value...Matthews shouldn't be making more than MacKinnon, and Marner shouldn't be making more than Pastrnak...but these greedy guys will probably ask for the moon again.

i agree with you, but they are greedy kids. Dubas gave them everything and thought they would repay him with playoff success, dubas was wrong.

When your top 2 players slink away during the playoffs and go from top 10 in the NHL, to maybe not being in the top 100, something is rotten.

Mine is JT.
He is a dead man working, doesn’t offer any leadership. People said he is stoic but he is more like quiet and speechless.
Capt needs to be the heart and soul of the team and not just someone who can score.
Reilly is Capt materials, as Capt needs to raise their game or get the team going when the going get tough.
If possible, would trade JT and TJ to Caps for Wilson and Mantha, then sign Orlov via UFA.
Let’s ROR be the leader in the dressing room.
If the MNM boys still can’t do it, then trade the one who can’t perform.

He was my favorite Leaf of this "core" when his game is on, hes on fire. playoff time a whole different Marner and it drives me nuts.

If the deal is too good to turn down do it, but I dont want Dubas being the GM that makes the move.

Why would you retain salary and give up assets to trade a PPG player?

I don’t think that’s stopped any teams from trading someone with NMC if they really pushed it.

Maybe they don’t need to retain salary.

I don’t think JT will agree to move if Leafs need to retain salary, but he probably would waive if he knows it is equal value coming back. It is a pride thing.

Need new management though, current management is all about giving the spoiled children everything they want. This team needs some tough love. Enough of front loaded here is all the money contracts on non max deals, enough of the partial post game critisism of its stars to then walk it back the next day. Mike Keenan a, we have a job for you!

I have a feeling Dubas can do it.

I mentioned on another thread as a joke but the more I think about it the more it might happen.
Dubas might just pull a Benning on Shanny and get Shanny kicked and become the President of Hockey.
 
One thing to keep in mind :

Marner has a contract where he has "the Tavares special" (No Movement Clause) one year BEFORE we can extend him. So you can't even approach it like you would approach Matthews ( agree to extension by July 1st or trade before July 1st ). Our options are "keep him until next summer and try to extend him or trade him as a 1 year rental in a situation where he can block ANY trade", or trade him now with 2 years left, when he can't block anything.

Ooooo that would be something….but does MLSE really want to pay 2 president of hockey ops with shanny still term on his contract.
 
I'm on the keep Marner side. He is the most consistent out of the top 4 and although he's still too soft, as a playmaker that isn't as bad if they get him linemates willing to go to the paint.
