I don't, always seemed idiotic as well.

You don't get how he negotiated his contract and then his playoff performances afterwords would sour a lot of people? I get it.

He's still one of the premier players in the league and if he ever figures out the post season he will be a top5 forward

There was nothing wrong with his negotiation, pretty standard stuff.
Being unhappy with how a player performs is fair.
The personal stuff about someone they don't know is idiotic.
Referring to someone as Paul because they don't share their idiotic view is even worse.

Let me know when this changes to the "post season".
Now, in my opinion.if Marner.is surrounded by four quality lines.and a decent set of defensemen and the different style of team play on the ice.He will have the playoff success… The system that Keefe used and what i believe was “dubas vision” of what wins in the nhl that they played the last five years was a complete failure come playoffs and they tried it for five years straight recycling.the 3rd and 4th line and defencemen and he had five off seasons and five trade deadlines… I find it hard to believe that Marner didn't give 150% effort during the playoffs… I feel bad roster.management (dubas) and coaching.is hurting him come playoffs.

Marner fanboys were against it. They still would not do Marner for Tage Thompson who is on a sweet deal. Hell I bet they wouldn't do Marner for McDavid cause Marner is better defensively.

Marner to the city with the best right wings in North America kind of makes sense. Be happy to take Owen Auston Power. LOL.
Tage or Tkachuk for Marner would highway robbery lol. Both suit the team better than Marner it its current make up.

I don't find it hard to believe at all.

If, if, if... The excuses are old. He quits playing when the cheques stop.

Therein lies the problem. Wants every crumb off the table but needs FOUR quality lines and a decent SET of defensemen. He wanted the money, got the money and has proven he is not an alpha dog. The p***y should have taken less money so they can surround him with players that are willing to do what he is not or cannot do.

I don't think so. I believe Florida's. roster and team play just shut the leafs down. He did have 14 points in 11 games.

That's all Dubis's fault. He is the one that built the team. paid the players and had the "vision.'

Hard to build a successful playoff team when you start with a flawed vision. Pisses me off because many of us saw it from a mile away and they just kept pushing it down our throats.

AM signs, Ferris comes out and publicly announced Dubas "low-balled" him
Then as negotiations proceeded, Ferris reported that because Dubas was unwilling to sign Marner for the same money as Matthews, it was proof that the team didn’t value Marner as a player.
Then the threat of playing in Switzerland
Ferris indicated he received offer sheets
Then shill Dreger goes on and on

Does anyone wnat to go through this bs again!? Many soured on him, including me. Overpaid, entitled, player who looks like he's 18 and a body to match. Mentally fragile

What has Marner accompished to warrant a raise?

l'd be more than happy to see him shipped elsewhere.
Its a little bizarre to me the way the conversation has been going especially in the media....Well, its just Matthews turn to be the highest paid player and of course Marner is going to get a raise. What in the actual F**k.?

Neither of them deserve a significant bump, especially after the Florida series. Hopefully the "Matthews wants to be the highest paid player" thing is just media noise, because if it isn't, trade his ass asap. He shouldn't get a penny over $12M, and I'm being generous.

I would say he put a lot of pressure on himself while negotiating his last deal...it turned people off just like Matthews maybe asking for 15 milly...its a turn off. He doesnt exactly do himself any favors when in front of a mic either. Letter to the fans was pure cringe. After losing in playoffs he never takes responsibility, is actually smug about it and says things like we dont care what you guys think, I dont need to do anything different, we had our chances, never showing that he understands what needs to be done to get better and we all know in his next contract he will try to bend the leafs over again. Dont know him personally or what he is like away from the rink on his days off but as a fan his play can be electric and impressive but his personality or what he shows of it seems very immature which when the going gets tough shines through in his play as well. Men against boys is what I see when judging our top guys to champion level teams top guys.

Those negotiations and no playoff success is more than enough to punt this guy out of town for me. If he pulls the same shit in two years without the team getting to the ECF or further, the fans will put shambles in his head. Wake up and smell the coffee boys.

People put too much weight into what the "Insiders' put out there for attention.
It certainly didn't seem like there has been any animosity between the player and the team, yet the fans have this imaginary beef going on with the player.

My opinions were not formed buy the media insiders...couldnt give 2 craps what they say...Ive got my own set of eyes and ears to form my own thoughts on the matter. These guys rub me the wrong way and rub a lot of people the wrong way. Theres validity to our thoughts (becasue we have them) whether you think they are or not. If you feel differently thats ok too. Im not saying your wrong, I just have a different view on the matter.

The poster people refer to as "Paul" is an over the top Marner advocate who is either invested emotionally or financially with him, given his outrageous takes.

The moniker is well deserved.

I am speaking in general and not a particular Leafs. We do often pay a bit more attention to any medias even we all know deep inside he or she is just crap but news is news. While at the same time when it comes to Leafs players, we all pretty much invested more emotionally than a lot of Leafs on the team. And when Leafs overpaid players we wonder why that is the case…. Personally, I think Leafs overpaid the top 4, of course we can justify why individually, such as JT was a UFA, Willie’s contract looks great now, AM’s term is in question but if it is 8 yrs with the same AVV, it is fine, or MM broke out in his contract year…all the justifications are valid as even with JT at the time of signing, none of them are overpaid more than 1.5mil. But if we all them together, that’s about 5.5mil in cap space and that’s a lot.
It is frustrating to see guys who claim they want to be here and be together…. Without making any efforts such as taking a discount on their next deal. Ofcourse if they all think they should be in top 3 highest paid players(highest paid in AM case) in the league, then that’s really is their own problems. As none of them should be in the top 3 highest paid players in the league. Stop with the cap % or future cap excuses….bc 11mil is 11mil, 9mil is 9 mil just like 1 goal in 5 games is 1 goal in 5 games.

Well then you'll be disrespecting Mitch who thinks he should make as much as AM.
They both have produced points at the same rate pretty much except Austin is a goal scorer and Marner does play more minutes, I assume because of his penalty killing. So it's a little hard to tell Marner that Matthews is worth 3 million. dollars more a year than him. This is a tough situation the leaf's are in because the more Matthews wants, the more Mariner will want. As long as the leaf's keep Matthews on this team and Marner. Mitch is gonna get rich off matthews contracts
