Let’s say for shitz and giggles that Matthews signs for his reported 14 million

What do you think willy will want. Most on here are saying he is worth 8.5/9.5. Do you think willy is worth 5/6 million less than Matthews.

That my friend is the main crux of the problem. What will willy ask for
Just tell his agent to go find a team that is willing to pay his ask and we'll work out a deal. Simple.

Sign Willy first if your keeping him and make it work for Auston simple cause ur right the other way around you’ll probably have to trade Willy

I'm glad we agreed, hence your pathetic attempt at diversion.

CAP can be 150, if Mitch Marner is the top-paid player in this league he is severely overpaid.

What exactly are you suggesting? MacKinnon, Pasta etc signed reasonable deals with cap raise in mind.

Paul, we saw this the last time around, remember when you predicted RFA is the new UFA? *

You just wait ! We'll overpay now and the league will follow the trend. :thumbu:

*spoiler alert it's not.
Wait a second. Pasta had one better regular season than Marner and a worse post season and Marner deserves less? 11.25mm at a cap of 81.5mm vs a 90mm cap?
We are talking about a contract beginning on the third season from now.
Like I said...12mm quite easily if Marner decides to leave money on the table.
You need to step off the ledge

If you're stuck with Tavares at $11 mill because of his NMC and you're willing to open the vault to keep Matthews at essentially any cost because his NMC kicks in 20 days, then by process of elimination you have no choice but to trade Marner to break up the 3 X $11 mil deals.

Even if you gave Willy a $2-2.5 mil raise that only takes him to $9-9.5 mil and still well below the other 3, and he has a modified 10 team NTC of which he submits a no trade list which gives a team a lot of flexibility to trade him any time. He is always grouped with the core 4 but really his is the only NHL manageable contract on the Leafs books.

Marner's NMC kicks in July 1st 2023 so that is the time frame from now until end of month to deal him if you want. .If July 1st arrives his last 2 years of full No Move gives a team no choice thereafter.

Lol worse postseason? Keep dreaming. Marner was absolute garbage vs Florida, completely invisible most of the time.

Pastrnak had 5 goals and was -2 vs Florida in 7 games. 2 even strength, 3 ppg and all primary of course.

Marner had 1 goal and 3 points -2 vs Florida in 5 games. 1 even strength, 2 pp points, 1 assist being secondary.

You are embarrassing yourself, Paul.

Even if you think secondary assist matter as much as goals (they don't). That one season was it the last one or when Pasta won Rocket?

Pasta > Marner by a mile.

Marners a playmaker...yet he hasn't set up any playoff goals. It's fascinating when you analyze his points. He may have put up a lot, but he wasn't a "play driver" in any of those goals.

- most of them were after the game was 4-1 and with less than 23 mins in the game. Which is an indication the game has loosened up.
- most were points from 50' slap shots.
- most are secondary assists, where he makes a simple everyday pass from the point.
- he had one primary assist at an important part of the game. However, he was so ineffective at carrying the puck that by this time, Keefe put Nylander with him and Matthews. Nylander carries the puck into the zone with speed and draws multiple players to him and momentarily freezes the goalie, before passing the puck to Marner who, thanks to Nyalnder, has space to make a pass to Matthews for the goal. Without Nylander... Driving this play, it doesn't happen (and wasn't happening prior to this shift) So...essentially, 11 million dollar Marner needed 7 million dollar Nylander to drive the line in order to get the puck to 11.6 million dollar Matthews. There's definitely a problem when a line needs to be 29 million in order to create a goal.

Last year's playoffs were similar... Marner picking up all his points (he didn't have many though) riding his linemates coat tails (Matthews).

I don’t think many people think he’s better let alone ‘by a mile’.

Trade him. The goal is to win a cup, not a President's trophy. We don't need regular season heroes, we need playoff warriors, a 1A or 1B on defense would be a good start.

Whereas Marner's goal is to hit the cottage as soon as possible. Send him to Arizona. He won't have to concern himself with the post season.

If 12mm is leaving money on the table, what do you figure he's really worth, 15mm, 16mm?

Going to be hard for Gary to access it when your mouth seems to be sewed onto his anus permanently.
🤪

One doesn't need to be Freud to draw some conclusions from your posts. Like the man said - you still have time to try and fix this obvious character flaw. Give it a try.

Whenever I've seen you post about anything other than Marner, you seem like a reasonably intelligent person but whenever Marner is the subject of conversation, you become extremely rude and your IQ seems to dip by about 50%. It's not just me either, several people have noticed this and commented about it before so it's painfully obvious. I'm sure you can do better and I suggest you at least try. Or you can keep posting like someone who's have a rough time going through puberty, the choice is yours.
Bingo!

Paul? What kind of f***ing joke of an insult is that?
Here is a tip...grow the f*** up and get a clue instead of displaying your utter ignorance of thr game.

If 12mm is leaving money on the table, what do you figure he's really worth, 15mm, 16mm?
Let me know when you are kissing his ass again next year.

Willy will ask for 10. He's a mercenary like his pops.
I actually don’t think Willy is all that bad it just seems that way cause he was the first one to get paid and he held out I would like to think now that’s he’s made some money he won’t be his fathers son soo much

Let me know when you are kissing his ass again next year.
Back to ass kissing, I'm shocked.:laugh:

Every time Marner's contract is discussed, you mock people for thinking any amount mentioned would be an overpayment, you keep saying he'd be leaving money on the table at whatever amount but when asked to name a number yourself, you resort to deflection and insults while scurrying away.

Gutless.

I'm the one that set the minimum. Where is yours?

What's a fair cap hit for Marner on an 8 year deal? If you don't have the stones to even offer up a number and all you can do is mock everyone else then you're gutless. So, are you gutless? So far, all signs point to yes. :)

I think this is a moot point Gary.
He already makes 11 so he’s not taking less.
I think 90% of the people also believe whatever Matthews gets, Marner’s going to be going after.
It isn’t just making Matthews the highest paid player, you have to be prepared to make Marner the 2nd highest or equal.
He shouldn’t have been paid 11 on his last contract. The assists are great and he’s a talent for sure but he was a 20 goal scoring winger at the time. Dubas messed up and left no room but to go above 11. Instead of going to 11 now for Marner, you are probably going 12/13.
I would trade him, sign Matthews, sign Nylander and get a couple of players for Marner to bring the Cap back in line. Then when JT goes, you have even more flexibility for whoever might be UFA.

Seeing Tkachuk punch him repeatedly in the face and he stands there and takes it like a bitch while smiling and laughing instead of fighting back like you're suppose to do during scrums, really turned my stomach.

This team is a bunch of rich bratty boys, and refuse to play like men when they are getting paid handsomely to do that... Like..... Did anyone see the after whistle scrums from Vegas and Florida.?? Nobody is letting Florida push them around and they're fighting back any chance they get... That's what your suppose to do.

Mitch stood there and took it like a Sedin sister and still ended up getting a penalty at the end of the game anyway lol you only act like that when you're trying to draw a call... The game was over and he's still there taking punches... Then he goes up infront of the media with that tough guy angry face and acts like he's bob Probert a few minutes later.

Lmao
Gtfo!

72% say trade Marner. Winner, winner chicken dinner. You are not fixing the cap issue by moving Nylander and Tavares is not going on LTIR.

All one has to do is watch the SCF and they can see our guys can't play that style. WTF is Shanny watching these days ??
