Forgot how much he defended him last year, honestly a little strange to look back and read that now. Like a mother defending her cub.

Maybe this is a read between the lines type of comment.

At the very least, he's allowing the wolves to be fed to some degree.

Let's see if there's change come September.
What I read from this comment from Dubas is: Say what you want, maybe if I shut up no one will notice how bad I(Dubas) Effed up..

The first thing Dubas needs to learn is detachment.
It’s great to make a safe work environment and give people every chance to succeed and support.
However, never put an individual above the team, make promises or become so emotionally attached that you can’t move players when necessary.

You also can’t give forever chances when trying to win and keep rolling the same thing that loses.
The interesting thing is a Marner trade could be the best situation for Mitch.

Yeah and that has gone over well
The 'outside noise' - I've never seen so,many fans fed up with this team
Total jackass answer and helps illustrate the whole problem - I'm paid f*** the fans

He was responding to a question about Marner being moved. Clearly he thinks it's a ridiculous notion and wanted to really emphasize that.

If we don't make any material and substantial changes, I won't watch next season.

Refuse to waste my time, energy and money and maybe if enough people do the same management will get the message, but I'm done.

I’m with you. Quite a few people I know are “done.” Most will probably come back, I am out until the playoffs, if there’s no big changes. I’m done supporting mediocrity.

"I understand the fans and they can feel any way they want, and media are entitled to feel any way that they want, but these are two awfully great players that showed it over the entire regular season," Dubas said.

Yeah when it matters. You're too invested Kyle
Well he did say he would bet his career and reputation on the fab 3. He is living up to his side of the bargain so far. Staying the course and putting his trust in this core that pretty much everyone wants to see revamped to some degree takes some cajones. He is doubling down and laying his career on the line for these young men. He is sealing his gm fate along with Shanny and keefes career one way or another this upcoming season. Interesting times in Leafland.

Shanny used we want to keep them and not they are going nowhere or they are the core…..
Dubas said they are talented players that showed over the regular season.
It can translate to, these are great players-just look at their regular season stats. We want to keep them but trading Marner will help us in our long term goal.
Or it could just be they will be back no matter what you say and I am betting my job on them.

Must be nice to have that crystal ball
After 5 straight years of disappointment, who needs a crystal ball?
It was mentioned by Keefe, Dubas, or Shanny. The boys were over confident after being up 3-1. They haven’t changed one bit. They think all they need to do is show up. They have absolutely NO killer instinct. Going into these playoffs, after what has happened in the 4 previous playoffs, you’d think they would have learned something. So what will it take?
I’m getting so sick and tired of hearing all these cliches. These pressers are so much a waste of time.
Hopefully MLSE will finally realize that this is indeed insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I'm hopeful I can hold out watching as well but after the extended summer (like us Leaf fans always have due to early exits) it's tough to stay away when training camps start up

I feel like I'll probably just watch less. With every playoff failure it becomes more clear how irrelevant regular season games are. Generally I feel like the playoffs helps me know what to expect in the playoffs, now I know it doesn't matter. No matter how good they look during the season, in the playoffs they sometimes look great but at other times they look uninterested and in the end they lose. And no I don't GAF about the Rocket or any other individual trophies, all I care about is team success.

It will take quite a few arena and box sponsors leaving da nest .. da subscriber base with their licenses will not leave all that will happen is more tickets will hit da broker market next year as more people take a profit from their license .. and then if team is on outside of playoffs TO does not support those prices .. so then following year da subscribers get no investment return and then you may see some action on licenses and tickets .. at some point it has to happen as base of supporters continues to age and youngins do not buy in

That's how I take it as well. They are betting their careers on proven losers to all of a sudden become winners for whatever reason.

With next season and the likely scenario that they play Tampa or Boston again in the first round and are again eliminated in the first round, someone's gonna have to fall on their sword ... probably Keefe gets the axe, or FINALLY Dubas admits defeat and one of these losers his vouched for is finally traded, but to me if it gets to that point Shanny and/or Dubas should be tar-and-feathered out of town
