Personally, I think if we trade Marner, Matthews is probably out the door when his contract expires. He looks halfway there already.
You don't let Matthews walk you trade him next year if we lose in the 1st

2 year Matthews should get enough assets that we can build around those assets + JT + Nylander +Eichel + the cap space to use to add strong depth producers

Why does this comparison keep coming up?

Never was and never will be. Have any of you seen Kane shoot the puck?

He's a slightly bigger Johnny Gaudreau.

London Knights, similar OHL point production, both small guys, etc. Marner even rocking Kanes old look hard lately.

* We won't know if Jack's neck is fully healed until early winter - when he's got a bunch of games under his belt.
* Buffalo won't make that trade unless Eichel is damaged goods.
* Jack is a center - like Matthews. Who moves to the wing.

I don't think Eichel is the answer.

One of Matthews, Tavares or Eichel can easily play wing. That's a non-issue. His neck issues still have a lot of unknown factors to them. And it's starting to look more and more like there will be multiple players demanding trades out of Buffalo.

If 11.634m isn't enough to keep him happy and he needs a friend, bring in Eichel Boeser or Kunin to name a few of his friends.

I admittedly never liked Marner’s style or game but I can’t say I didn’t try to or gave him a chance. This series pretty much did it for me. For the first time I can say I don’t want him on the team anymore. Him always having this pouty sad face every time he made a mistake like he’s feeling sorry for himself annoyed me even more.

The difference between Kane and Marner is :

* Marner's shot is ****.
* Kane performs when the going gets tough.

If Toronto tries to movie Marner, teams are going to know why and we are going to be disappointed in what we get back.

Now, if you're moving Marner to dump that salary, that's a different story.

Beside the cap and Eichel wanting out, why him?
Part of the problem is 4players with half the cap, having Eichel is the same problem.
Marner needs to be traded and replaced by two top 6 players.

That's fair but I would not make that trade.

If he's on this team next year he can sweep the major awards and I won't care. He needs to produce in the playoffs and lead us but this is all fantasy cuz Dubas can't be crazy enough to bring him back
Oh yeah he can listen to his comments last year we believe in Mitch just had some bad luck I wonder what the draft Will work like next week does he draft a bunch of tiny little players again people that play well in the regular season and have no heart doofus is one of the major problems to Friendly with the players and gets taken advantage of

Playing Marner in the Playoffs is like throwing well cooked Spaghetti at a tank in war.

Maybe they can get Jones, Rantanen or Eichel for him in a fair 1 on 1 hockey trade.

I think Marner is more attractive than people think. He might not perform in the playoffs but a lot of teams would be happy to just make it into the playoffs esp since he real salary is 1mil or so.

That's an excellent point and another reason to believe Mitch won't be moved.

If Matthews doesn’t understand that an eventual Marner deal is made to build a better team around him improve his chances of winning you probably wouldn’t mind letting him walk.

Marner's contract is simply untradeable, unless the Leafs plan to retain a lot of it. The guy is a very good player, but the reality is the skill is offset with his contract and term. Honestly, who takes him on?

If Marner is traded and Leafs somehow made it past the 1st round and beyond. AM is going no where.

I'm a Leaf fan so if we win the trade, great. I just don't think we will. That's another reason why I think Marner remains a Leaf.
