Again what are people here looking for/expecting.
If it’s Draisaitl or bust, yeah you’ll be disappointed.

But for 11 mil, what if you got a Nylander comparable player for 6 mil (Filip Forsberg type example) and a defense like Muzzin, Ekholm type. This is of course an example but with Marner’s salary you can certainly turn 11 million into 2 or 3 quality players.

I think it's pretty unlikely the Leafs make substantial changes to their D this year. 1-6, this was the best group they've had in a very long time. They might lose Dermott to expansion or an offer sheet, but have Sandin coming in.

Even up front, I think if you look at all the "movable" money (Simmonds, Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Engvall); I think the Leafs will find a way to convince themselves that they can put the right group around these guys especially with Robertson coming in.

Why the hell didn't Keefe break him up from Matthews? Same with the Columbus series. Marner clearly isn't good enough to break through the other team's top defenders in the playoffs, bit he did really well against the Bruins that one year when he was on the shut down line with Marleau and Plekanec. Put him on one of the bottom three lines and match him against the Habs offensive players - he'd get way more open ice to make plays that way, and might have helped make plugs like Mikheyev or Simmonds useful by setting up tap ins for them.
Because Keefe is a moron and a f***ing horrible coach. Breaking them up is exactly what I would have tried. Cassidy did it with Pastrnak against us also

Yeah. Having a top 5 league scorer is the WORST thing to happen to the leafs in the last ten years. No doubt about that.

Having a top 5 regular season scorer taking $10.893 million of the cap who doesn't show up for the playoffs is really bad. But hey, there's another 4 years of that at least if he doesn't get traded...are we ready for another playoff no show next year?

Marner made an interesting comment in his post game presser.

He said something about not scoring first... and it seemed like that meant so much. So the fragile mentality of this group goes way beyond anything we could think of imo.

I mean, you're down 1 goal and you shut'er down? In general, but especially in this series it was very evident whoever scored first was in control... narrative could have changed with OT goals for the Leafs but as always they never came through.

This group will never win with that kind if mindset... its almost as if as soon as the Habs scored they pretty much knew they were not going to win? Talk about a loser mentality, holy shit. Marner said it, but it was pretty clear he was not the only one thinking like that.

That doesn't jive with the fact that they came back from a 3-0 and then a 2-0 deficit. When this team was behind it was great - everything we wanted it to be. And it played well when it was ahead. It's when the game is tied that they played scared and soft.

MArner might get more in trade than some think. Frontloaded deal. Marners cap hit is $11 but he's owed $8 per. Teams like Buffalo, Columbus and even Calgary would love that.

I think they want to trade the guy who choked for the third straight playoffs. If he was playing great there wouldn't have been an issue and we'd be talking about the Jets series.

On the plus side, I thought your boy Rielly had a great series.
Lol coach and gm cost us this series. How many times do we dump the puck in and forecheck. We never made the habs D man turn and go back for the puck. Until we were losing late in the games. Our top line generated chances dispite this. Human who I love looked like he was playing for a contract and kept the puck far to much. People complained about Babs systems but fail to see that our coach was out coached severely and our GM is out of his league

Sad but true - Part 2.

What's even sadder is that management might anticipate Marner getting the Carlyle treatment once fans get back in the arena and feel obligated to make a trade.

Which is a real leafy and somewhat likely scenario.

lol you spent years slamming Nylander and fluffing Marner

the chips were down and Marner shit the bed and Nylander excelled. Bet you didn't see that one coming.

Find all the scapegoats you like - Marner choked in a massive fashion.

This guy sucks. If they don’t move him, I’m officially not a leafs fan anymore. He’s the epitome of what is wrong with this team, the core and organization. Him and his big contract need to go

anyone with Marner jersey tonight thought about lighter fluid and matches…

Marner just can't handle the pressure of playing in Toronto. He was regularly screwing up basic plays and blowing chance after chance in prime scoring areas. He sabotaged himself today.

It sucks cuz we all know that if we trade Marner he'll prob win 3 cups and 2 Conn Smyths on some other team.

I disagree with that, but I am curious. Who would you want coaching this is team?

Give me Eichel, Jones, Tkachuk, or Laine+1st in return and I'm good.
* Eichel has a slipped disc in his neck. No thanks.
* Jones would be a win.
* Calgary will not trade Tkachuk for Marner - again, they already have one Johnny Hockey and they don't need another.
* Laine is trading one headache (who won't be told) for another.

If Nylander played like that, the poster would have went down to Scotia and physically kick him out of TO.
Since it's Marner, so it's blame everybody else.

I'll trade him for a year of Seth Jones in a heartbeat. The deal works for Columbus, doesn't it? They lack a gamebreaking offensive talent to get into the playoffs and they have such strong team defense that they can withstand the loss of Jones. Marner is under contract for years, and Jones has said he's bolting next summer. Even if he hadn't said this, they have to know they're the kind of team players leave, not come to or stay.

It's a worthwhile risk for the Leafs. They have a better than average chance of re-signing Jones, who is just entering his prime. Analytics guys have soured on him lately, so he is by no means a slam dunk to be a norris winning stud like he was before... but it is possible, and even if it's not, I like our chances much more with him as our #1 and Rielly as our #2. Marner can f*** right off, we're better off with his cap room freed up, but using that cap room to re-sign Jones is A-OK with me.

What about rielly + marner for laine + Jones?
You can keep Jones and Laine long term for ~1-2m less than Mitch and Morgan long term.
We make that trade and, next year, everyone is bitching about Laine instead of Marner. Besides, Matthews needs a playmaker, not someone who loves the puck more than he does.

Eh they can say what they want.

It is utterly hilarious that there's a very real possibility that Nylander is on this team next year and Marner is not.

Laine’s garbage, and even the good version of him would piss off Leafs Nation more than Marner ever has

So weird how 1 rookie season has given the Laine name prestige it hasn’t deserved since
